    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Proper intake boots for 34mm RS carbs on GS1000 Head

Folks,

My plan is to run 34mm Mikuni RS flat-slide carburetors on my 78 GS1000E head.

Rapidray is currently porting the head so the intake port diameter will be approximately 34mm.

Where can I buy the correct carb holders to adapt this head to the RS carbs? According to the attached chart, the spigot (outlet) diameter of the 34mm RS is 40mm.

Measure the center to center distance of the manifold mounting holes and call SUDCO and see if they can match it up for you. Those guys are pretty helpful. Check your clearance for the petcock too; those RS34s are quite a bit bigger than the VM26s.
 
I am glad you posted this thread, i am building a set of 33mm Mikuni flatslides to go on my 78 GS1000E and they too have 40mm o/d inlets. I have been told that Kawasaki Z1000J inlet boots are the correct ones to use, they just need the mounting bolt holes elongated slightly to match the GS head.
I will be interested to see what other inlets you guys suggest......
 
THE 34mm RS's have a spigot diameter of 40mm whereas the 36mm RS's have a spigot diameter of 42mm

42mm seems to be a much more popular spigot diameter - I haven't bought the carbs yet, so I am waiting for a reply from Dynoman and a few other people that I have asked the same question.
 
what i have always done in the past was purchase a set of "big boots".
i had to elongate the holes somewhat but this seemed to be the norm by all performance shops.
jay from APE can help or schnitz racing sells these.
back then i was never able to find a direct bolt on for GS1000 or kawi's that came with small VM carbs.
 
Found a couple options:

Mikuni intake boot part #002-053, the only issue is that the bolt holes are 8.5mm and the stock bolts are 6mm and thus there will be a smidge of slop around the holes

The next option is an OEM Kawasaki intake boot, part #16035-1135 OR 16065-1131 - the only isue is that the bolt pattern is 58mm and would have to be slightly enlarged to 60mm. However, I believe the Kawi holders use a 6mm bolt (not 100% sure).
 
Getting closer. Don't forget Yammers too; they used Mikuni BS34s on several models.

That is exactly what i posted earlier, so my source is confirmed.......
 
I have to decide - the Mikuni M-VM-34-200K or the Kawi 16065-1131

The Mikunis 8.5mm will require a larger washer on the 6mm bolt to be held down properly, yet the boot will have to be manually "centered" on the intake port.

The Kawi's should work but require slotting.

use a shouldered bolt on the mikuni,s. the kawasaki ones only need slotting by 1mm. 5 minute job on each hole.

I thought about the shouldered bolt idea - unfortunately metric shouldered bolts are very expensive...

Granted, the slotting isn't a big deal on the kawi boots - the only thing I'm wondering is about the "groove" located near the end of the spigot area. Some of the Kawi boots are listed as having a "triangular groove" and some have a "radius groove".

Dunno where you get your shouldered bolts from but they are cheap as chips in my part of the world (and ebay)
plus, isnt it worth paying out a few bucks for proper fitting bolts? mindless money scrimping if you ask me.
