A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I don't know if this is old news so please forgive me if it is. But I recently noticed that Metal Gear are now making replacement - pretty much repro - discs for a lot of GS bikes. I had been told that replacement discs were not available for my '82 GS1100G so I was pleased to see these. FWIW I saw them on Aussie Ebay so I would assume they will be on US Ebay.

Anyway I thought it was good to know!

Interesting - They say they post to Australia. That's fine for me cuz I live in Australia! But I can't find them on US Ebay. I just assumed that they would be available in the US because it is rare that something is available here but not elsewhere. Maybe email them and ask if they'll ship to Canada? I'd be surprised if they wouldn't.

They seem to have a wide range on their Ebay shop.

AFAIK metalgear is a German product, the Aussie distributer is marketing online

I have a set including the same brand pads on my bike for over a year now, there great, and indistingishable from the OEM ones.

The pads tend to squeal a bit when hot, but than could be the overloaded sidecar flexing everything.

Cheers John

Yup, got a Metal Gear disc and pads on the front on mine too and happy with them so far. Pads are a little squealey like John says but I can cope with that and it's much better now I've put the missing shim pad in that was never there... I'm assuming it was lost by a PO at some point.

But I do have their fibre pads in my brakes. So it's not just me that finds they squeal a bit?

I think the discs look pretty good.

I had to get a shim pad from Suzuki, I think it was $14 locally here so that wasn't too bad and at least I have it now.

They have sintered pads as well as organic, I have the organic. Next time I reckon I'll try the sintered and see if it makes a difference.

Well the way it was explained to me was that sintered handle heavy use better but work best when warmed up, as in racing. Whereas fibre "grab" better with regular (for me!) riding but might fade if used heavily. I may try the sintered too one day but for now I'm pretty happy with what I have.

My discs do have reasonably heavy wear marks but seem to work well. Once I have done everything else I'll see if I want to replace the discs as well. I'm just pleased that replacements are available.

Yeah I measured my disc at the end of the rebuild after the wheel was on etc.... less than 4.5mm

I really should've measured it when I painted the wheels... oh well...
