A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pulling the plug

I'm switching over to an Acewell tach/speedo system, so the tach plug with the gear inside that is in the top of the cylinder head (it connects to the tach cable) needs to come out. I'm planning to insert the a tach plug from a 1000 Katana that simply plugs the hole. Any ideas on how to pull the original plug?

Thanks!

Why not just pull the cable and leave the drive mechanism?

But, if you want to change it, remove the bolt that is next to it, then slide the tab away that fits into a slot on the side of the drive.

.

Already tried that. It's in there good. I tried pulling with pliers with a screwdriver wedged in there trying to push it out. Just thought I'd ask for input before mutilating it. I just want to seal it as I'm guessing oil will weep out.

I got it. It just took two flat screwdrivers from a couple of jackknives.

Does oil week out now? All I can say is it was pretty greasy when I got the bike, so I'd have to say yes.

Problem solved. I got a nice aluminum plug and that should do the trick!

Thanks though, Steve.

Thanks for posting this up Bruno, I'm doing the same with my 450 after putting an Acewell on.

I've got the stock plug from something like an 1100S? to replace the tacho drive but haven't done it yet as the bolt holding it in has the head rounded off. I have a new allen head SS bolt to go in its place finally, just need the time to finish it off:

Mainly I just don't want something flying into the tach. drive while it's spinning and doing any damage as well as for aesthetics.

Yep, that's the plug I used. I"m almost certain you know there's a seal that goes on there but figured I'd mention it just in case you weren't aware.

How do you like the Acewell?

Yeah the seal's there, hidden under the other packet...

So far I'm loving the Acewell. It's smaller than I imagined it, but the display is very easy to read and I'm very glad I swapped over now.

I got the tacho lead hooked to the negative side of the Dynatek coil using the supplied resistor and I'm using one magnetic bolt on the front wheel with the sensor mounted on a bracket I made that's cable tied to the left fork.

I'm currently making a bracket/dash that will allow me to mount up the stock gear position indicator with the Acewell instead of just having the Acewell sitting off to the side.

That's good to hear, Pete.

Mind if I get in touch with you with questions as I finish up my installation? I've got it wired up electrically, but I don't have the speedo or Tach connected/set up yet.

My bike is getting closer to being started, but not quite there yet, so this is one of many sub-projects in a complete rebuild.

Hey Bruno, no issues at all and feel free to PM me if you wish.

Also, starting at post #2194 in my rebuild thread (yes it's embarrassingly long and still going), you'll see the Acewell install in words and pic's.

The pages before that will also show making the speed sensor bracket I made for the left fork leg.

I'm still working on a proper bracket for the Acewell itself at the moment which you'll see on the latest pages of my rebuild thread.
