A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

pyramid parts BR21 steering bearings issue and soultion

If you’re thinking about replacing your steering bearings on a pre-79 GS550 and 750 the pyramid parts BR21 kit probably won’t work right out of the box. I choose it since all balls stem mod was beyond my capabilities, and it seemed like pyramids kit didn’t require any mods. I was mistaken and have asked them to update their BR21 kit to prevent this from happening again.

The problem I ran into is a shoulder on the lower steering stem shaft causes the upper bearing to bottom out prematurely. I was left with ~1mm of play. You can solve it with a 1.5mm shim below the lower bearing. There is a shim from Suzuki (09181-30184) off a later gs550 that should work. Pyramid ended up sending me a new seal lower bearing and shims, since I wasn’t too confident about nondestructive removal. The all-balls stem mod also works but the setup and tooling is rather cost prohibitive endeavour.

Bearings were NTN 254815 on top and 274814 on the bottom for reference.

The shoulder I had issues with measured ~173mm to the steering stem.

I'd imagine pyramid will send a shim the first time around if you include a note. Hopefully they'll update the kit.
