    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

    Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

    So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pyramid Parts - Don't Do it!

I put Pyramid Parts (from eBay) wheel bearings in front and back when I rebuilt the 450 and now have about 20,000km's on it.

The rear wheel has a slight lateral movement but the sprocket carrier has a *lot* of lateral movement.

This is what the sprocket carrier bearing looks like... the "seal" has separated as you can see and a piece of the metal cage holding the balls in has broken off:



Lesson learnt, if they look too cheap they probably are!

My front bearings feel ok but as soon as the tyre needs replacing I'll be swapping those bearings out as well.

The new bearings going in are Nachi Quest and I believe they're good but time will tell.

A very expensive way to buy the same bearing, if you go direct to a bearing supplier with the old bearing or the number you can buy the same bearing or equal quality at a fraction of the cost, that goes for the needle type used in swing arms, for my 1000 exactly the same manufacturer at a third of the Suzuki price.
 
top quality bearings from SKF, FAG or NSK in that size ( 6302-2RS ) are less than ?5 each!!!!!!!!
 
Hmmm, I used Pyramid for my steering head conversion. I think I'll keep an eye on that. Thanks for the heads up.

Given the known failure already on the rear bearing, and determining it looks like they are sub-standard, you're gonna wait until tire replacement to change the front one?

Sounds like a gamble I wouldn't want to take, but maybe that's just me....
 
Chuck, I got the bearings from the Suzuki dealer and these are what they use.

These were $30, genuine would've been about $94 all up...

I hear ya', and trust me that is sitting in the back of my mind constantly. I will be watching those front bearings carefully and may swap them out early yet. It's not just you... that thought is definitely in my mind...

The main thing was limited time getting the bike ready for our big ride next Sunday.
