    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

alright im new here for one, two I just picked up a 82gs550l for 100$ bike is in good condition everything works blah blah... anyways first off bike will NOT run when petcock is in the on position it will only run in the prime position, which may be my problem but im not sure, but bike will start and idle fine on Prime..... and run the whole time until i shut the damn thing off, i can goose the throttle and get a few high revs out of it to about 5K but when im driving it I cant give it full throttle bc it will bog down.. it wont die it just bogs if im easy on the throttle and shift at 1-3K rpm it drives alright i can get up to speed but the least bit more gas i give it it just bogs... sometimes after its running for awhile and im running in gear hold it to about 4k and goose it it will stutter... then kick in, like its running like it should till about 6500k-7 and then start to bog down again, i need help... i know jack **** about bikes just know how to start and ride them... im only mechanically inclined with cars, and sorry about the long post i just really need to get this thing running for a bobber project

First off...WELCOME to the only site on the web, for the GS series of bikes.

Next, you need to do a little computer work, prior to hitting the wrenches.
A complete carb clean (look it up, this ain't kindergarden ;) is in order) and the o-rings can be purchased through Cycleorings.com AKA Robert Barr, a member here. Also, a set of o-rings for the intake rubbers is needed.
Next comes a good clean air filter, ALL clamps tight, and a battery with a full charge.
Report back when these tasks have been completed and I will bet, the only questions that you have, revolve around the final tune! :D

great pick up for $100, but you will have to put a little more out to get it where you want it. I'm putting the finishing touches on a bike that is very similar to what you picked up. So along with going over the mega-welcome, check out my thread so you can see what you got ahead of you.

Where are you located? It will be helpful to get to know a local member. Post a pic of the bike, lets see it.

Hi Mr. 4drpower,

The secrets to GS nirvana are in your "mega-welcome". You will find a couple of maintenance lists and a whole lot of other information. Follow the maintenance lists and the procedures they describe. Do it right the first time and you will have no worries. If you take shortcuts you will end up disappointed and frustrated. You have a 30 year old motorcycle that needs some TLC. Clean the carbs properly, check/repair the charging system and all electrical connections, new fluids all around, new brake pads, new tires/chain/sprockets, etc. You'll have to put a little effort into your bike up front to make solid, reliable, and fun transportation.
