A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Question about 1st Gen Gsxr suspension?

This might be a silly question but where does the term "slabbie" come from?

I'm pretty sure it comes from the relatively large skirts of plastic under the seat. Slabbie is short for Slabside. I'm pretty sure Suzuki never applied that moniker.

Some people think the slabside plastic, is awkward looking and other have swapped out the tail sections in an attempt to remove the large plastic areas. Purest would never dream of that. I have chosen to retain the style, but trim down the full length of the skirts for my street fighter.

I'm all for a project bike but it seems a shame to chop one up that nice.... My project was a barely running dented tanked slack suspension piece of crap & the added parts were bought already parted.

You can easily get the parts you need without chopping that one up.... I know from experience that all that first gen stuff is out there for sale. Forks & triples are about $70 - $100. The 17" wheels are easier to find than the 18" & would work just as well, I have a set, Pos has a set - or just leave that GSXR alone & put the USD setup on the GS... Using the stock swinger parts are less than $400.

Don't kid yourself that you can put it back - you'll need to mess with the triples etc to get it to work.

Dan :)

You guys keep it up and no one will ever put a picture of their GSXR up again :o

I think they're beautiful! Different from everything else. Saw a nice blue/white stock one at a local coffee shop this summer, I nearly fell over from excitement!

As most of you know i really dont do standard bikes so this may surprise some of you

DONT YOU DARE HACK UP THAT SLABBY pauly !

it would be a criminal shame  there's not that many around in that condition now as most have been crashed bashed or bodged into oblivion

Yes i'm responsible for my fair share :o but even i wouldnt mess with that one apart from finding a nice stock exhaust for it & running in on sunny days

s**t i'm turning into an belstaff wearing rivet counter :-\\\

While i think :D

jim nailed it, the slabby name came from the "slabside" rear seat panels, nothing suzuki ever thought of just a quick & easy way of explaining the differance between the g,h,j models & the later K onwards "slingshot" models

& i'm giving no more info on this thread if it relates to destroying a perfectly good, classic, mold breaking gsxr1100 ;)

Lately i have been thinking about selling mine. 1100 motor i think it used to be a track bike but not sure. The street fighter idea has also been kicked around. I don't ride it that much, kind of a pain in town but on the interstate it is really fun.

I thought us Brits were known for hacking up bikes. Taking the best bits from each bike and putting together a better bike. Eg. Triton, Norvin etc.
So now I have to start hunting for parts again seeing as I am not allowed to touch the GSXR!!
Oh well I will have to keep it and ride it on sunny days. Dammm. lol

Cheers
Paul

We are... just a shame to see that one go.

If you have problems getting parts in Canada or stuff shipped into Canada from USA Ebay I might be able to ship parts to you from here (at your risk). Lots of GSXR stuff available.

Dan :)

Just found another GSXR1100 for you guys.
Rudy this one has your name on it!!!
Check in the road ready bike section.

Cheers

We are :D I'm well known fo not worrying about taking a grinder to anything but that even i would draw the line at a mint 1100 slabby or a 1000, 1100 katana ;)

I'd say go find a slabby 750 to bits or even better a slingshot as they have far better suspension etc i'll help ya then :)

Pauly, :pray:PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :pray:don't do anything to that beautiful Ole Slabby! (Except drop in a set of Racetech 1.0 kg springs and cartridge emulators in the front end, and get an Ohlins or Penske for the rear.) Stainless brake lines up front...Pilot Road 2's and a few other options for good, modern rubber...she'd smoke 90% of all the bikes out there, since you really know how to ride! :D

What a gorgeous old bike!!
