As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Question on Coil Mod GS1100GKZ

I have a question on the coil mod. In the walk-thru instructions on your links, it says to take the wire supplying power (from kill switch), and connect it to the + terminal on the relay. Simple enough. Except in the manual, the diagram shows the or/w wire connecting from the switch to the ECM and the coils are spliced in along the way. My question is this: When I connect the wire to the relay, am I to leave the wire disconnected that would normally have gone to the ECM? Or am I to leave the the path of original continuity between the kill switch and the ECM intact and just branch the leg for the relay off of that just as the original design had the coils branched? I'm unclear on this and I don't wanna fry schtuff bc I was too bullheaded to ask for clarification.

Sincerely,
Capt. Space-Cadet

Follow the O/W wire under the tank to a bundle of either clamped or soldered wires. This connects the power to the coils and ignitor. I cut the wire before the bundle and use that as the relay switch and solder the power wire to the bundle.

Follow the o/w wire from the run switch and it should end up at the coils and Ignitor eventually. You want to cut this wire before the splice and use it as the trigger for your relay ( the side coming from the switch) and then the other end, the splice that goes to the coils and the Ignitor is where you want to connect the output of the relay.

Alright! Awesome! I just didn't see anything that says where the o/w connected to the igniter goes. So it goes on the output side of the relay on the same pole as the coils right?

Yeah you want to give it and the coils the same amount of power.

Cut the O/W wire before the bundle and after the kill switch. Connect this to #86 on the relay.
Solder a wire to the bundle and run it to #87.
Ground to #85
Fused wire from battery to #30.

Is it ok to connect the two o/w wires, that plug into the coils, to the relay instead of cutting the o/w wire at the harness? And for the relay ground, should it run to the battery, or can it be grounded to the frame?

Ok, so I found the one that is hot and the one that goes to the ignitor. I'm splicing them up now. Taking a while bc I'm cutting back the tape and replacing other wires that have been melted or got too hot (prime suspect, the jumper on the loom the opens one leg of the stator.. MELTED!) I'm replacing that loom and tracing back those wires and removign them. I'll be rewrapping the wires when I'm done, but I figured, if I don't have time to do it right, when will I ever have time to fix it? I can post some pictures of my progress if ya'll wanna see. Sorry I've been in and out of state and country all year so far.. Just got back from Colorado and had to rewire the septic.. ( FRIKKIN BURNT WIRES!!!) ten I had to replace a sprayer and line that someone ran over with the mower and the line got cranked into submission too.. Been a busy man ya'll.. I'm sorry I haven't been as active as I would have liked!

Anyway, beyond my tirade, I'm also putting in the relay on the other side of the frame for the horn. I'll be running a selector switch up to the fairing to has horn options.. HEHEHEHE!!!!!

So.. so far here is what I've gotten done:

carbs jetted and uber cleaned/painted up nicely,
some rewiring.. still underway,
replaced gaskets up to the valve covver (still need the realgasket for my valve job.. pending),
new electrosport stator,
rebuilt real brake calipers,
pizzin and moaning about the extra work I've still gotta do.. hahaha
