Had my clutch cable break on my 1978 GS750 while on a ride yesterday. I went to my local cycle salvage and got a Suzuki cable from an unknown bike possibly a GS550 or something smaller since the cable is slightly shorter but has the same ends on it. I figured this would work out fine since I am running clubman bars and the old cable that I had broke was a little on the long side. Got the new cable installed and with my adjustment screws maxed out I can't seem to get it tight enough. It seems that the protective cover on the cable is slightly shorter allowing for too much play on the ends where it is exposed. I think I tried every combination of adjustment and it seems to be moving the arm for the clutch but there is no snap in the hand lever and it just kind of flops around. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna just need to get the correct GS750 cable but that's going to take at least week. Anyone know of any tips or tricks or anything I could be missing? Perfect riding weather this weekend and I am missing out big time.
