A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have an 81 gs 650l when i got it it did not have an airfilter.
So I'm looking for a replacement but the local dealer wants 40 some thing for a stock replacement. I found a few online for cheep but they say for 81-83 gs650e
will these work for my l. Also where is a good place to get one. Online?
Thanks in advanced.
William.

If it has no filter at all, you're stuck with stock, because the foam element fits around a plastic 'cage', and, as far as I know, no other replacement, other than stock, comes with that piece. $29.29 @ www.boulevardsuzuki.com. Also, be careful with whatever 'online' sources you're looking at, first off, their descriptions of year model
applications are frequently laughable, e.g. (um, so to speak) , 650E models were only made in 81-82 model years, and to your basic question, 'E' and 'G' filters are completely different. Also, you might ask CharlieG on here if that 650 he's parting has those parts still, and for sale.

Hi,

I think I paid about $40 for my K&N air filter from a local auto parts store. They had to special order it. You can probably find one at an online vendor and order it yourself for a little better price. It's washable and re-useable just like the UNI foam types. I use both the K&N and the UNI on my bike, whichever is clean, and notice no difference. Yes, you will need the airbox internals (cage) to install it properly. Reference the following links.

Here's a picture of the cage assembly that the air filter element fits into. Notice that it has new weatherstripping installed along the top edge.

Lots of parts fiches show wrong orientation- towards the side panel is correct. The cage is about 5 inches long with "D" shaped ends for some silly suzuki reason. If tkent doesn't have one, you could make one out of hardware cloth or stiff chicken wire- it's there to keep the foam element from collasping.
