A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'79 850G. The Bagger with Baggage. Like meeting a new girlfriend at 40...

The bike is hard to push around in neutral. Clutch in or out doesn't matter. Put it on the center stand and the back wheel is somewhat hard to turn. I thought I should be able to spin it fairly freely. Is this a problem?

wow, I have a project 80 850 that I've been working on and noticed the same problem today trying to roll the bike around.russell

There is more resistance in the shaft system than there is with a chain, but you should be able to push the bike around.

.

It isn't Uncommon for the Rear Brake pads to drag, the Two Main Reasons seem to be Calipers or Master Cylinder in need of Rebuild OR the Brake Pedal Hanging due to Crud Built up around the Actuator Shaft. I had the Hanging Brake pedal Issue on My 850 until they Knocked out and Cleaned the Splined Actuator shaft when I got New Tires this Spring. No Issues Since!:-D

Brakes was my initial suspect. But never had a shaftie before and didn't know what to expect. It's a bear to push around, can't hardly do it while straddling the bike.

Thanks!

Mr. Goose,

Just to add to Mr. marvinsc's wisdom.... Do you have fresh 90wt gear oil in the rear differential? On the center stand, does the rear wheel have any "wobble" from side to side? Are the axle bearings in good shape? Any play in them?

I guess I'm just a worrier. 8-[

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Mr. Goose,

Just to add to Mr. marvinsc's wisdom.... Do you have fresh 90wt gear oil in the rear differential?

Not yet. But thanks for reminding me of ANOTHER task I need to do to my "road ready" GS850...

On the center stand, does the rear wheel have any "wobble" from side to side?

Didn't notice any...

Are the axle bearings in good shape? Any play in them?

Welllll, the front bearings seem to have an issue, along with the torque'd forks and bent handlebars... So, add ANOTHER maintenance item...

I guess I'm just a worrier.

Not nearly as much as I've been LATELY as I tear into this thing and find more "baggage" in the new relationship...
