    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Raise GS750

Hey Guys,

I have a 1978 GS750 that I am looking to raise the rear a bit. I believe the stock shock length is 13" is there a recommended maximum for lengthening the suspension as to not make the bike to twitchy? I was looking at the 14" progressive HD shocks:)

On my '80 GS1000G there was a swingarm stop tab in the way for shocks longer than 13" that stopped the travel on extension for the shaft drive. I used a dremmel to cut off and used a 13.5" fairly new Harley shock to test. The crap HD shocks blew out and leaked oil before 500 miles. Waste of time. I did pick up a little ground clearance to scrape pegs less but then you reach the limitation of tires in holding grip anyway.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother and go with a correct size quality replacement shock for the GS750 and a tire that will hold on hard cornering. No sense in putting a cheap Kenda tire on after all that?

Thanks for the reply! My 750 is chain drive. I don't know if that makes a difference or not? Sorry I mean Heavy Duty not Harley. I am looking at making a custom seat pan that sits only about an inch above the top of the frame. I am 6'4" and 200lbs and ride with a passanger 30% of the time so I was looking for something with longer travel. The HD springs will be plenty enough I belive as I had them on my 79 GS850

Don't these two ideas conflict with each other? Why not a taller seat to better fit your longer legs?
