A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have K&N Pods on my 79' 750 I'm restoring. The filter itself is in great shape. The chrome, not so much. I don't want to have to replace $120 filters if there is a way to re-chrome the endcaps.

Has anyone used some sort of chrome touch up (heck or any metal plating touch up for that matter) kit on a part like the K&N filter, that CAN'T be dipped in a tank, and had good results?

I agree with Nes. Scratch and paint em with flat black paint.
I thought about painting mine and they're still new:D
But ya cant see em much anyway..

I think I seen a girl with some chrome finger nail polish once.

Hey, might work.

you probably have a few choices...

chrome dipping doesn't actually have to be dipped, if you can find a shop that is in between runs, they can just suspend the section needing rechroming in the solution. will still cost you 50 or so.

scuff it up an paint... by far the cheapest solution.

rechrome it yourself, the caswell hard chrome kit works well, only requires a car or marine battery really (1 amp per sqin). but at a cost of 150 or so for a 1.5 gallon kit, probably not worth it unless you want to chrome other parts.

last but not least, you may be able to find a chroming kit cheaper if it is a brush applied version (electrified brush or swab)... but, results may vary.

if it were me, i would scuff it and parkerize it, won't have to mess with it for quite a while.

was digging through some of my boxes looking for a fuse block and found the brush version of the plating kit i was talking about. it's called "plug n' plate", and according to the package it's available in black krome, copy chrome, nickel, copper, tin, gold, etc.

scuff em up and spray em! the choice is yours then, black, flat black or colour match them to your bike. the colour match option would look cool

Thanks for the input guys. If no one here has had experience using the brush plating kits, then it's just not worth the chance. Paint it is!
