A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

re-keying seat & fork locks?

Is it possible to disassemble and re-key the seat lock and fork lock cylinders on our GS's? I really wish I had a seat lock for my bike. I have an extra seat lock, but no key for it, hence the question. I wonder if a new one could be ordered from Suzuki to match my ignition and fork locks still?

Maybe just a used matched set may be best? I'm staying optimistic about disassembly and re-keying! Looks like part of the seat lock is soft metal that is peened over to lock it in place.

Any half way competent locksmith can make a key for you existing locks. Don't think it's possible to modify the tumblers so everything operates with only one key though.

Yes you can rekey the seat lock, check out my tutorial, will need to search for it though.

Edit, here it is.

If your seat lock is different than the one in the above thread, post a picture and I can help.

GREAT NEWS! Thanks Kiwi, I figured it was something like that. I had done the same thing with a bunch of Volkswagen locks that I had in two doors on the rabbit and two spares (but much easier to disassemble!), swapped the "wafers" out to get them to work with the ignition key and used some spares from the extra doors. I have a fork lock, seat lock, and an extra ignition cylinder. I don't know if the ignition will be as easy to get apart without the key, maybe easier, what do ya think? I figured with those three for parts, I may be able to re-key the seat lock to fit my key.

Thanks!

Ignition is not as easy to disassemble as you need to remove the 3 blind roll pins to remove the cylinder and plug to access the wafers.
I use a small mini hacksaw and cut in on an angle, once you hit the roll pin you should be able to use a sharp bladed screw driver and carefully pry the pin out. Roll pins are only 3/8" long.
When done you can install the pins back in the same holes and they should be good.
You can usually find a code on one of the locks and get a key cut to code by a locksmith shop, about $25.00 for the first key.

Good luck.
