A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thats the spline. whats the other parts look like? Teeth chewed off them too..or should I say just how badly re the teeth chewed up. Some pics of the male gear will be useful as well.

Chuck,

As you guessed, some parts of the male gear are chipped off as well. The driveshaft / driveshaft receiver are both fine upon closer inspection though.

Looks like I will need to replace that gear as well. I looked but it does not seem like removing the 10 bolts will let me slip everything out. On the inside of the female gear for the drive-shaft, I saw a c-clip at the very bottom. Do I have to take that off to break down the whole assembly?

You don't need to replace anything but the driven spline in the wheel.

Leave the final drive alone. It's fine. I've seen far worse damage to these that has caused absolutely no problem whatsoever.

Unless it's replaced before failure, the driven spline (the one in the wheel) fails on every 82-84 shaftie. Every. Last. One. I recall a few cases where loose bits of metal damaged the seal in the final drive, but I don't recall any cases where the splines in the final drive are too damaged to use. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I know for a fact that I've seen far worse damage that hasn't caused a problem.

Install a new driven spline. Apply a reasonable amount of 60% moly paste -- your friendly local Honda dealer will sell you a tube that's a lifetime supply for I think about $15.

Ride happy. Find something else to worry about. :D

Thanks BW. I'll clean it up good and then grease it when I get the part in. I'm really excited to be this close to having it up and running. My buddy just got a GSXR and had me ride it (he isn't quite confident) and damn did it give me the itch to ride! Sooon!
