    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rear brake cam...can it be replaced?

Hi All....just picked up a "new" 1983 GR650 Tempter. The question I have is about the small bolt looking item called the brake cam (part # 54440-08003). It is the bolt that the brake cam lever attaches to on the rear drum brakes of this bike.

The PO said that he guessed a bolt came loose and the brake cam lever hit the ground and snapped it off the rear wheel along with the brake cam. Odd...anyway. There's still a small nub of it left and I was wondering if it can be pushed out and replaced with a new one. I don't want to have to buy a whole new half of the rear wheel because of a snapped off bolt. Anybody ever do this or have any suggestions? Let me know. Thanks
 
Yep...I know...I was just wondering. Postage for a small bolt vs the rear wheel?...I was also curious if it can be done at all. Thanks
 
The cam pushes right in

Remove the rear wheel, pull the brake plate and the shoes. If the cam has a ragged edge you may have to file it down - then it will slide right out

$16 at the dealer - call in the AM and order it

This part is held in place by tension - the PO is handing you some kind of story- it takes a lot of force to snap off a shaft that large. And it can't fall out or snap off if the bike hit the ground

Thanks Big T. That was the answer I was looking for. I had never come across this type of situation before and thought it was possible but wasn't sure.

As for stories from PO's...I think we've all had our share but...what imaginations!!
