    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rear Brake Prob

Ever since I got my 77 '750 the rear brake lever (pedal?) has been having problems returning to the right position, as a result the brake sticks a little bit unless I pull up a bit on it with me toe... it' mostly just been a bit annoying. Lately, though, I've been a bit timid about using the rear brake at all because it seems to stick right away and lock up. I'm pretty sure the caliper needs to be rebuilt but I can't find a rebuild kit for this year... any ideas. Umm just for the record don't bother telling me that I shouldn't be using the rear brake anyway (a view that's been shared on this site elswhere).
 
It sounds like the caliper is sticking. If it is, be careful you don't damage the rotor by contact with the brake pad's steel backing plate. Sticking calipers are usually caused by old brake fluid. When it is not changed regularly, the fluid absorbs water which can corrode parts and create sludge, eventually freezing the caliper.

Actually, you should be in the habit of using both brakes simultaneously.

Ya my '80 GS850 was doing that. I was able to take the caliper apart clean it out and buy a PISTON AND SEAL KIT FOR IT. If you don't address it now it will warp your rear disk, ask me how I know!
 
I had been in the habit of using both brakes until the rear started locking up at the drop of a hat... I have, however, seen posts on the forum in the past that advocate the total disregard of the rear brake.
 
Check the piviot shaft that the brake pedel mounts on It could be sticking
