    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rear Master Cylinder - checking it after rebuild

GS1000 rear master cylinder and caliper rebuild.

Just got things put back together using the tutorial from Basscliffs site. I believe the line is clogged because I cant even get air bubbles it through it by blowing on the line.

Here is the question:

Is it possible to check whether the master cylinder is working without having the line or caliper attached?

I filled the reservoir and pumped the piston and no fluid comes out the end where the banjo bolt goes. Should there be pretty good pressure?
 
I just did my front M/C, calipers & hoses and much to my surprise, I found 1 of the old hoses completely plugged up at one end:eek: I picked it open, sprayed cleaner thru and blew out but had decided to renew just due to age. I plan on going thru the rear setup prolly this winter or next spring.

Wow man! Darwin award winner in training.:eek:

Ditch the crappy, full of sludge, original lines and get new.

As for the master that won't pump, make sure the small return port is open and prime it (fill the pumping cylinder with fluid). Sucking a vacuum on the caliper nipple usually does it. You can do it with the caliper off the bike too.

Thanks Ed. I actually went back out and pumped on it some more and was able to feel some air pressure so I think it may be ok. As far as the line I haven't had any luck cleaning out either rear line I have. It is way too difficult to get a wire in the banjo bolt hole.

That being said, anyone know what diameter line will work. I don't really want to put any money in this machine but saw this 33" long line on ebay for cheap.

Sorry if I am being dim.... but 10mm banjo bolts?

I don't want to make them myself, but want to research various hoses. Yes I know the length, and I know it says 3/78 1/8 HR but are the banjo bolts 10mm standard?

A guy locally can make me one for $15 out of black rubber, and that is what I may do, but for the bike I am keeping as a daily driver, this looks WAY more affordable than anything else I have run across...and they look braided.

The ones Ed linked you to will work just fine if you can make them yourself. If not, check out Z1's stock or some folks out here like Rennsports.
 
I went ahead and gambled $48 on a complete set (one 33" and three 22") of stainless from china. That is a fraction of the cost of those others. We will see how it goes.

I will just change all of them out on my daily rider and then use it's rear one on this project bike.
