Brian,
I mailed you that old shock from a 78 GS1000. You should have it anytime now.

Thanks..........I will posting a few generic questions once I get the shipment....I will pay for shipping both ways.......:)

Hey Brian, sent you a pm, but never heard back?? Still interested in a progressive shock as a sample?

Mike

hopefully I didn't delete any email you sent to me by accident.....

i am really looking for OEM shocks for comnparison sakes......thanks though........:)

H'lo Brian. I haven't received the spec sheet. Sent you a PM with my e-mail addy a few weeks back.

Any news?

tom,

check your email........its there.....sorry about the delay i was a little sidetracked......with some valving issues.

....ok, call me crazy but, why not just use the CBF shock on the GS? Its an inch longer right? Other than that its basically the same setup. Lots of guys go a little longer when they get aftermarket shocks...

I'm about 230, ride with a 105 pound passenger and usually fully loaded saddle bags. The extra travel couldn't hurt right? 8-[

Your initial staement is not that far from crazy. Let me offer a couple of very simple pieces of data to the mix here as well as some fitment issues.

First of all the distance form the swing arm fulcrum to the mounting point will be different for the GS applications which will mandate different internal valving. Also the spring rate will change as well. The overall mass (of the GS vs CB) will be different and the front / rear match of the suspension components are looked at.

From a fitment standpoint the upper and lower mounting points are different which requires an aluminum molds to be fabricated. The overall diameter of the shock also has to be modded to accomondate any shock/chain interfernece issues.

Trust me I am only touching on a few of the changes being made. But you will be very happy with the results.

i hope that gives you a little insight as to the development issues we are facing.

However, I have already said this and I will say it again. The membership here at this forum has been fantastic and that is why the GS pieces will be ready ahead of any other brands.

Brian,

Thanks for looking up our Suzuki GS world here and contacting us regarding your product. I sent you a PM on this same topic, but I wanted to post it publically too. Glad to see the GS crowd reacting nicely to this....as I would have expected. :)

I'll contribute how I can with my tools, measurement and photo equipment. I had planned to replace the original set of shocks on my '83 GS1100E (the faster blue color) this spring anyway.

I really like the chrome colored shocks...not very much a fan of the gold ones....they're too modern colored for our bikes.

Also, as added incentive, I can get you some action shots of the Vipex shock at Deal's Gap...relativly close to where I live (and as 8track would say...work). 8)

Looking forward to your release of these for the GS series!

~Adam

I own a pair of those Konis as well. They are OK but get a little inconsistent once ridden really hard. The Vipex pieces offer a far better cornering dynamic - I will guarentee that. On two other notes - that Kat of yours is a nice piece. You are only a few hrs down the Highway from me (ok - 6) If you ever ride to Toronto send me a PM.

Thanks! haven't been to TO in a while , but use to ride out and back a lot when i was freelancing for Motocycliste/Cycle 1 magazines. We had to pick up all our test bikes from the importers (TO area) and ride them back to montreal same day 1100kms. did somebody say speed limit!?

The reason for the Konis on the Kat (and the other upgrades) was to recreate and 80s bike, pre gsx-R mods. already did that in the early 90s on my other GS. that one has Works Perf. stereo shocks.

The Vipex shocks you are talking about have to be better, if only because 2 decades have gone by and pogo sticks just don't cut it in this day...

let me return the compliment on that killer CB-F of yours

You don't need to return the shock... it's yours to do with what you want. :)

Thanks, I will keep it then.....I hope you have included either your Paypal address or your mail address so I can pay you for your costs (shipping)......cheers.

Piggyback Shock Update.

Piggyback Shock Update.

Update:

we are incorporating a fully variable compression/rebound adjustment on the GS spec. shocks - to coincide with the already present variable preload adjustment. It will bump up the cost a little but will be entirely worth it to be able to 'dial in' your suspension.

The final price is not yet set. It looks like release and price for mid April.

EXCELLENT! Thank you for your interest in our classic motorcycles, Brian...as opposed to just concentrating on the lastest sport bikes. I do believe that if the shock is well designed, and your company can come thru with good customer service, you will create a very loyal customer base here. :-D

Case in point: Over at Maximum-Suzuki.com, Dale Walker (founder/owner of Holeshot.com) has a very loyal (rabidly so) customer base with the Bandit & Katana owners. Not just due to superior craftmanship of his custom products, either. Over and over, guys will say it is the personal/professional courtesy and killer customer service that brings them back again and again.

Put me down for two sets. I like the chrome ones, but will you also be making them in black? What color combinations will you be offering?

Will it be offered in the cheaper version as well? Just asking the question for the frugal minded folks. :)

To quote Henry Ford, you can have any color you want, as long as it's black.

I love black.

Actually, the lady that answers the phone over at Holeshot (Sue, I believe her name is) does so to support a daughter who has a great deal of medical problems, not because she has low self esteem and fake boobs. Never had an issue with Dale, either. I have spoken and emailed him and he has always been willing to answer GS questions because he has built several GS based drag bikes...and he doesn't even make products for Gs's. Their will always be a few dis-satisfied customers....

The whole reason we got into this business was exactly that. To offer cutting edge pieces at a fraction of what the big guys charge. We were sick and tired of looking at aftermarket pieces costing more than the value of the bike. Lets do a little comparison here. Perhaps you are the owner of a decent 1980 GS 750. Would it be out of line to say its worth around $1500? How can you justify $1300 for a pair of shocks for it? (ohlin for example). I realize Ohlin is a great product and we are the new kids on the block, but lets get serious about the price any of the larger builders charge for a well featured product.

As far as affordability goes we are rock bottom for what you are getting. A fully adjustable piggyback roadrace shock absorber for around 200 (it will be a little higher with compression/rebound dampening addded)

Can you buy shocks for less? Yes you can. But not built, warrented and featured like these.

To directly answer your question. There will be a cheaper version for Honda - as they are already being sold. i dont forsee a less featured shock for the GS in the really near future unless there is a demand for it.....more on that later.

Hope I provided what you needed to hear.

Will you be able to accomodate those of us not into racing???

On my GS, I just want something comfortable.
It's not my race bike, I like to ride this one all day.
All week really.
I don't mind paying for quality but I don't want a hard ride at all.
I would think lighter springs and lighter oil would do it but you certainly know more than I do.
