    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rear sets on the GS 450

Hey guys I recently picked up an '81GS 450 for a cafe racer project. Has anyone here done rear sets on one of these or a similiar model? I am wanting to do these to make the riding position more comfortable with the clubman bars. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Not many people out there cafe'n the old 450 except you and I. Hilsy might chime in here. Any aftermarket rearsets will probably bolt up with a little fussing. Longer linkages, etc...

I am going to fab my own.

Not real familiar with the 450s, but Fast from the Past has parts for rearsets. Adapting a used set off eBay might cost less. But if you find you need a different length rod or joint it can be pieced together easily.

someone had a set of some yamaha 250 that bolted into the stock location. use the search button uptop for "gs450" and just weed through the threads, youll find it.
 
Thanks for the info guys. I can't wait to get this one done and on the road. One other thing I'm going to think about doing is looking at changing the gearing for highway speeds.
 
I have a set of nice looking universals bookmarked on another computer, I'll try and post the link tomorrow. They were cheap too! Under $100 for the pair I think. Made in China of course but then what isn't these days?

For the most part, ones that are 'new' and are direct bolt up will usually cost the premium. Even Raask rear sets are comparable in price to Tarozzi.

Even used sets that are direct bolt up on these old bikes seem to hold their weight in gold it seems. When I was looking around there was a used set of Raask sets up for sale, $250, but at that cost might as well buy new ones.

Adapting a set would less cost, but more time involved in fitting them usually. In opinion mounting them just needs to be thought out wisely. Having one or both snap off would be least desireable. :eek:

Unbelievable that those things go for $100. There is a ton of machine time in them. I would be very curious to know if there are reviews out there. Can't go wrong for that kind of money, as long as they work........

Man those would be perfect! Worries me a little that they are in China though with a German bank account.
