    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rebuilding breaks...Questions

For 1977 gs750....

So i decided to finally dive into my breaks after finishing up my carb woes. I have already purchased new pads and replaced the front pads and fluid. The rear on the other hand......

I need a rebuild kit and i can get those anywhere. My question is...where do i get new pistons? They all seem to be discontinued. I don't have access to compressed air at the moment, so i can't see the other side, but it seems as though the brake pad side are scarred.

Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Since when are the pistons discontinued?
 
Not sure where to get them, other than the usual parts houses, but the back side of the piston and the lip that contacts the pad don't really matter what they look like. The only part that really makes any difference at all is the outer circumference of the piston. It needs to be shiny and smooth.

By the way, are you rebuilding your breaks or your brakes? :-k

I still believe that the BIGGEST problem that people have with their BRAKES is that they keep taking BREAKS. ;)

ok ok. BRAKES. sorry, long day at work. Nessism if you could tell me where to get them that would be great. Searched the usual palces and couldn't find them.

Any OE Suzuki parts source can get them. Dealership or on-line dealer source. There are tons. Part Shark typically has decent prices.
 
$45 for the piston set. Not too bad i guess. Thank you sir. Everywhere else i looked, reference numbers 1-2 were blank and said discontinued. guess i wasn't looking in the right places.
 
Yank them out, order new pistons, seals and dust boots. If the bore is heavily pitted you can sand them out, like Steve said as long as the piston and seals are new and the rim is clean you should be ok. My rule for rebuilding brakes is everything must look as close to new as possible when you are finished.

Most definately. I will be ordering rebuild kit and new pistons. Got to rebuild rear master too i guess.
 
What bike is this for? We are assuming that it's a Suzuki, maybe even a GS, but we don't know for sure.

If you don't mind waiting for a week or two, I have found decent prices and products at Parts n More.
You have to allow them a few extra days, as they are in Canada, the stuff has to come through Customs. No problems, it just takes a couple of days.
