A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Recognize these Coils?

My 78 GS1000 came with these coils on it from when it was converted to a race bike when new. Does anybody recognize these (believe they are Harleys but can't find match)

They are mounted under the SEAT not the tank and have screw in type wire leads.

ANother question...... When I measure the power wire to the coils WITHOUT CONNECTING to coil, they measure extremely close to battery voltage. But when I hook wire to the coil, voltage drops 1.5-2.0 volts. Is this normal? There is also a power line split off from the same power source as the coils and leads to I believe is an igniter (is that correct?). If I undo that wire, there voltage remains at battery voltage even when hooked up to coils. What is all this telling me?

Primary resistance =4.0 Secondary resistance =12K. These measurements are consistent with both coils. I know these are different than stock coils, but will it impact performance.

Care for another question? I also run DYNA S. One of the magnets under the pickups is split in half but remains intact. Will this effect Dyna output to coils?

Sorry if I haven't explained myself so please let me know if you need further info. Thanks for your help.

Those look cool!
Are you losing voltage with the spark plugs installed and wired in?

The voltage loss is due to the fact that the coils are powered ALL the time.
These systems use "hot" coil loops which are broken to produce the spark - this is also consistent with voltage increase if you disconnect the ignitor.

I think.
Someone better?
