Thinking about just brushes and shave them down to what I need.

Is anyone making a brushless starter ? Like the type used in RC car's.

The DynA knockoff rev limiter showed up today. Looks ok, obvious to me now how its different. Also under the cover everything is potted Except for 3 wires going in and out of the epoxy.
I measured them and they are going to the 1 k pot that you set the limit on.

The min is 6000 and max is 12000, very simple wiring. So I was going to set it up with either a remote dial or set it up with a second dial and a relay for a two step limiter.

Maybe trigger it with the clutch switch. Or maybe a low limit for low gears and higher limit for higher gears.

Just thinking aloud.

Here's the first video, Not of it running yet but of actual work being done.

Valve recess cut via cnc.

Turn volume down at 0:50s !

Also ran into a bit of a snag. The cam's were ordered to be .355. Well they are definitly not, they are actually .370 !!

Oh well, a little more lift cant hurt :D
Just need to do some more calculations and check gaps, valve travel, any binding issues that sort of thing :)

And some pics

New valve relief's. Only 0.030 deeper than it was but now that the program is written its easy to tweak it for what ever depth is needed

Hey how do you make images smaller when they come from photobucket ?

Drl-400

Drl-400

I found a deal on e-bay for a Real DYNA DRL 400.
Ebay

I'll keep the other DyNa knockoff for another project I'm working on.

I'm thinking of using the low limit for when its in neutral or when its not in a gear by using a relay and the gear position indicator.
And maybe the clutch switch for having fun with launching :P

Jfam, you could use a gs 450 or 500 barrels and pistons if you use the two valve head. But with our 4 valve per cylinder heads the pistons are not compatible because we need 4 valve recesses and they only have two. And ours is flat top, the 2 valve piston's are domed.

Our bikes supposedly put out 44 hp where as the gs500 with two valve per cylinder puts out only 49. I know it all depends what site you go to and what you look up but those are the numbers I've read more than twice. There are some sites that say 26hp but its not hp. Its Nm.
Its still up in the air, I've never seen a dyno result. Point is: the 4 valve design puts out some good power even with a smaller bore.

So everything below the base gasket is the same on GS500's, 450's and 400's?

What is it that makes the GS500 motors not fit for installation in older gs450's?

The exhaust ports on a 500 point straight where the 450's go out at an angle.

So it's bolt-in other than that? I guess the ports like up with the frame rails.

Ignition is all the same?

It bolts right up just fine. The only problem is that the exhaust is pointing directly at the frame which is only 4 inches away.

The ignition mounts the same way that the 450 does, The only difference is if you have automatic advance or electronic. After 83 they were all electronic anyways but you can swap all the parts necessary onto either engine.

There is one person on here that did the conversion and the exhaust was the only hard part.

Doesnt a GS300 have a single frame tube up front? :?::D

Yep they do... 250's do too I think... but some creative exhaust routing solves the exhaust port issue... I'm not sure what affect (if any) that has on the ability of the exhaust gases to get out efficiently though...

Its back :P

Its back :P

And at 4am this morning I've created this:
My head feels as foggy as this picture :P

Timing set at 107.5 n 108 ex,
Lots of valve clearance now.

With the new valve releifs in the pistons i think it was almost. 0.130" but I didn't measure it very accurately. I could see there was a lot.

Its coming along good now. The engine is complete and oil primed.

Just have to:
Buy some new plugs,
Charge battery,
Install the 500 ignitor and coils,
Install the Dyna 400,
Install a PCV valve and filter,
Curious what the compression will be :P

But to get to the bike I have to get to it on a nice day where I can bring the bike outside and work out in the sunlight.

I'm in a 15x15 shed with two bikes and a snowblower :P Not much room to work.

Yes indeed she is! I remember when mine was that clean... sort of... it was a while ago!

Holy crap, that's a nice looking motor. Congrats!

I'm just getting into this (late start, I know), but what carbs are you running? Surely not the stock 400 CV's?
