A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I pull up for gas yesterday and when I try to start the bike, nothing! Like the battery is dead. All the electronics work when its running. Does this mean a dead regulator? Stator is still good?
I was planning on getting a new regulator but there are so many to choose from.
Z1 has one, Sirius Consolidated in Canada has one. Electrosport has a drop in replacement. Then there is Chucks on eBay. There is also the Honda option.
Which regulator would you pick? Its a '78 GS750. If I get a Honda one, could someone show me a link to which one to get? I'm OK with modding the wiring a bit for installation.
I have read all of the Stator papers and will be going through all my wiring. I'm just stumped as to which regulator to get.
Cheers

Go through the stator papers and check the charging system first.

If a R/R is needed, I'd buy a Honda R/R.

Thanks Rusty..I'm going to be doing that this weekend. I think whatever died killed the battery so I might need a new one. Which model Honda do I use? Can you give me a link?
Thanks

I saw that list...how do I decide which one to get??? I'm thinking I might just get one of the stock models from ricks on eBay. I'll probably get the regulator and stator at the same time. I did do a test of my charging system a few weeks back and all of the numbers were low. I never got over 13 volts at the battery.
As for Honda...would this one work?

This is the one I was thinking of getting:

Please, so we do not have to read your further posts on this subject, do not go stock. The Honda or the Duaneage R/Rs are the way to go. PM me if you want one that is new and will work just dandy. But do not go back to stock.

Check out your charging system and if and when the time comes, I'll help you pick out a R/R.
