    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What would the method of polishing be to get a more factory look on the front tubes?

Seems they typically have a brushed type finish.
 
I dont know exactly how they did that Rich. Seems like some kind of real fine sanding method. If you notice the areas around the fender mounting nubs arent smooth like the more accessable areas are.

I havent perfected any uniformity by using a fine wire wheel and bench grinder either..seems to leave it looking lined where the wheel is moving around.
At least these are uniform and good looking....considering the jumping off point!!!

Maybe cleaned up and then gently soda blasting would give a relaxed matte type finish???

Possibly wet blasted?
The soda may do it but I would stay back from the part and blast then clean and examine the part and make my way closer slowly if need be.
Try it in out of the site area first.
I really do not have any experience with it but the soda blasting seems to need finished somehow from all the picts I have seen of parts soda blasted.
Thinking if you kept well off the part the finish would not etch so deep and that may look better on the lowers.
 
A scotchbrite pad does a pretty good job of replicating the factory look. A red pad maybe, but you might want to start with gray just to be safe.

 
I will have to try this on an old lower Ed.......clean it or polish an area then give it a scuff????

Brush with the scotchbrite watching the direction. Brush marks should run around the legs.

Used Por-15 Glisten Clear. Great stuff. Catalyzed for durability, and designed to stick to raw aluminum.
 
Wow I like the shine! After we get this one done, and before anyone else hires you, I may want to hire you to just pretty up my skunk too.
 
Full bike ( covers and forks ) $225 and you supply the clutch and stator cover gaskets. If you think the fork seals are a little old, then thats a good time to replace them also.

Bet ya didnt expect the old girl to have such hidden beauty...did ya!! Wait till she is all done, You may not want to sell her!!!

I agree. A gray Scotchbrite pad would give them the nice factory brushed look. Red might be a bit coarse. Lookin' good, Chuck.

we will sell her,,, I cannot afford to keep her
 
This afternoon was dedicated to tackling the dash. Got the speedo and tach opened up, Cleaned the faces and both sides of the glass, and got the trip meter rest unfroze.

Then got to the worst part...the cracked glaas around the upper tier. Got it all disassembled and cleaned the gauges and clock. Repainted the needles all around.

Now what remains is to find a thin sheet of 2MM plexiglass or lexan that will fit in the rubber gasket.

Got the lens installed...gotta go back and wipe the inside of the lens again..I see i missed a spot wiping it off. Oh well..you get the idea to compare the before to after.

Might try and find some stickers for the turn signal and idiots lights...anyone got a link???

lookin good !! BTW, I saw some extra turn signals in the garage, but haven't inspected them yet. Will let you know. I am also bidding on a set of three on ebay right now.

Got the fork seals and wipers I was waiting on to start the reassembly.......so heres the progress as of today. Did most of it yesterday and a few hrs this morning. Shes gonna look SWEET when shes done. Those are new EMGO super bike bars ( the ones from my other appearance thread ).

I took slices of emery paper and contact cemented it to the inside of the bar holders for some extra grippage so the dont slip.

I also had to transplant the wire and sockets from the original into a spare rear tail light housing I had. Soldered all the connections and wrapped the harness back up. That was fun.

Thanks Frank....got a ways to go but the foundation is solid again. i was amazed I didnt find any frame danage, dents, scuyffs....nothing. Most damage was cosmetic and to the engine mount and fin...simply incredible.
