A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Replaced stator, now bike won't start

When I put my third stator in, I decided to opt for the series r/r route. I've had no charging issues since. I run with onboard voltmeter to monitor output at all times as further insurance.

Will do, thanks again.

By the way, the new R/R probably won't get to me until next Monday. Should I not ride until I replace it or what?

This is an Electroscope stator after 250 miles hard ride using a MOSFET (SHUNT) R/R. You can see the discoloration. After putting the Compufire (and a subsequent stator replacement) in that stopped.

20-30 miles is not going to hurt much probably but personally why stress it if you don't need to.

Why? It's almost 90 degrees here in Maine, and the rest of week looks similar-The road calls! I got stuck in traffic today and could smell the gas vaporing out of tank as I sat in sun ,but charging was stabil

You have a series R/R you are allowed to go :)

I got my Compufire R/R yesterday, installed it today following Jim's guidance and tested the charging according to The Quick Test and it was a steady 14.5 v at 5000 rpm. Took it for a short test ride and everything seemed fine. Tested charging again - same results. Then went for a quick 30 mile power ride on the highway and the bike ran great, maybe the best it has since I've had it.

The full carb cleaning 5 years ago made a huge difference, but with the new stator and series R/R with the SPG it's really performing well. It seems more powerful, more responsive, and runs smoother. Sure, I hoped the recent work would resolvd my charging issues, but I didn't expect such a difference in performance.

Now if I can only figure out the problem with my GSX1100G I'll be all set.

Thanks again for the help.

glad it is working , do you think you cleaned anything that would have improved voltage to the coils? That would make it run better.

I cleaned a lot of wires and connections in the process including at the coils so that may be it.
