    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Replacement Master Cylinder - '82 450E/single disc

Guys, just after some clarification on finding a replacement front master cylinder for my '82 450E.

From what I've found by searching, it seems that anything with around a 13 - 14mm piston bore size will be suitable as it's a single disc setup. Is that right?

Also, most of the ones I've seen on eBay quote the banjo bolt size rather than the piston bore size. Any clue as to how that would translate? Otherwise how do I find this out? I don't expect an online parts fiche will tell me piston bore size...
 
So, I'm guessing I wasn't quite as awake and capable of searching as I thought I was this morning...

14mm is the normal stock size for the single disc setups, no doubt there now at all.

My frustration now is with eBay sellers that insist on listing only the banjo bolt size. It's good to know what that size is too, but the piston bore is just as important.

So, going by other things I've found on here, there should be a 14 marked on the master cylinder somewhere so I can ask eBay sellers to look for that, am I right?

Aside from all that, has anyone tried the cheap ones from Thailand and Hong Kong? The price is great but I'm not so sure I should be trusting them. I do hold to the "you get what you pay for" thing...

Mikes XS offers a selection of master cylinders, and identifies their bores.
 
They do indeed! Feel free to picture me slapping my forehead here...

They also have AUD figures on the site, so less than $80 plus shipping for a brand new one... that ain't rocket science!

Thanks again Bob, ordered the 13mm piston bore master cylinder tonight.
 
Here's a picture of the unit installed (08-262). One difference with this particular one is that the brake line mounts to the front, so it's turned 90 degrees from stock, and I had to twist my brake line 1/4 turn to mount it, so I ordered a new braided one with the ends oriented in the same direction. I got the "matching" clutch lever from Mike's, also.

I used drag bars on 3/4" risers so the master cylinder and brake would fit so close to the forks.

I still have my old brake line so I'll be able to check that out as well before ordering a new braided one, thanks for the heads up.
