If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Replacement tank for GSX550ES?

rcLord510

Forum Newbie
Hi everyone, I recently aquired a 1984 Suzuki GSX550ES for a great price, although it’s been sitting a while it looks to be in great shape, with the exception of the tank. This is not some rust on the inside that I could clean out, the walls of the tank are totally rusted through, the top of it is missing most of the metal, it’s a wreck, not fixable, so my next idea was to find a tank. I see a few on eBay for about $100-120, however I was wondering if any other bikes tanks would fit directly on it, since most of the tanks on eBay aren’t in the best shape either. Any guidance is appreciated, thanks

I've never heard of a generic tank fitting any GS bike, without welding.

Your best bet is find a friendly boneyard where you can rummage around and find something that fits.
You might find a CX500 tank will fit, for example.

For the best fit you should look for a tank from the same model and years 1983 to 1986 Suzuki GSX550ES. Other Suzuki tanks will not fit right without changes because the mounts and frame shape are different. Try checking eBay motorcycle salvage yards or local breakers and make sure to look at the bottom photos to see if it will match.

Well I found a good looking tank that’s the same paint as my bike, in great shape, so I just gotta find a good petcock and level sender, anyone know if something from another bike fits for either? I see a lot for the gs550 but I’m not sure if they’re for the gs550 or the gsx

Well perhaps you could Cobble something together.
likely only the lever length and float varies model to model

you could just get the parts needed to cover the hole.

as for petcock try k&l or oem if still available.
