    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

replacing carb. butterfly valve

rebuilding my carbs., float post on #4 broken,got spare set from someone and the number four carb. butterfly was rusted shut. Soaked it in evaporust and got it to work, but butterfly plate is bent and of course two small screws are so rusted can't get them out to replace. Is there a way to replace entire butterfly,valve and shaft the it is attached to? thinking I could drill out screws and get plate off. and remove shaft and replace with good one I have. But not sure shaft will come out even if I can get butterfly plate off. terrylee
 
Yes, you can replace the shaft and butterfly. Take out the screws for the butterfly, remove the butterfly, and then pull out the shaft. You might have to take off the sync adjuster mechanism - it comes off after a small roll pin is pressed out. I've done it before and the hardest part is getting the screws out.

Actually, getting the screws back in is no picnic, either. They are peened at the factory to keep them from coming out. Removing them is difficult because the tips are bigger than the holes you are asking them to go through, but trying to put them back is hard for the same reason.

Other than that, it should work just fine.

It would be just dandy if you could find a way to peen the screws back into place. Maybe support the throttle rod on something that is sticking up the outlet throat while you reach through from the intake side with a punch and dimple the end of the screw? :-k

I used red loctite when doing a shaft replacement.
 
Thanks guys I thought that is what I could do. Didn't know about the screws, thanks. I will have to drill the rusted ones out and will replace with valve and shaft from another carb. terrylee
