A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Replacing old 6.3 mm terminal connectors with new 2.8 mm terminal connectors

Hello i am new in this forum and i have old Suzuki Katana GS650 1983 year. I have problem with charging, but my R/R and stator are okay...everything comes from weak connections cuz my bike is 31 year old and i bet no one change them. I found "3,9 mm Japanese bullet connectors" on good price on the net and some (2-3-4-6-9 way) connectors with 2.8 mm terminals. Is it good idea to change OEM connectors with 6.3 mm terminals with new one with 2.8 mm terminals? Does size matter and how will affect over performance.

Sorry for my bad English

Regards E.Genev

What matters is matching the terminals to the wire size range and use proper crimping tools. You can use vintage or modern connectors, your choice. The right crimper will turn the wings of the terminal around and back into the center of the wire strands like the ones on there now. There are also two crimpers for barrel type connectors, one for uninsulated and one for insulated terminals. You can get tools with jaw dies that will cover all types including ones for spark plug wires. FYI the newer waterproof connectors use the old style wings wrapped around two places on each terminal, so they are likely a little better than the barrel type.

Best thing to do is rewire the charging system, bypassing the stock harness. Connect the stator directly into the R/R, and make sure the R/R is properly grounded. Most GSR members here use flat spade type terminals, not bullets, because they seem more reliable.
