Hi everybody, a friend of mine recently buy a GS-1100EX with some missing parts her and there , we live in Argentina so he paid $us1250 for the bike and here that price is a real bargain!!
The bike need new pistons so we are having troubles to find them in the country, anybody knows where we can get them, if we dont find the STD in 0.5, we may use Wiseco (74mm bore), there is another option, any comment?
The camshaft bearing caps are missing too so we find a set from a GS-750 16 valves, those will fit right?
The plan is restore it to original specs as far as we can.
I will put some pictures of the bike as soon as I can.
Best regards!!!!!!!!

Adrian

In theory those cam caps will fit but in reality its not a good idea and the caps and the head should come as a matched set. You be hard pressed to find a set that matches sorry to say. Some be tight some be loose and some might fit. They must have the right clearance or valve clearance wil be a issue. sorry to say

If/when you find the cam caps, can you have the cam tunnel align bored?

Thye could get caps and check with a bore gauge I think.
A head may be hard to find in Argentina if Suzuki was not a major importer to that country.

Except for wear wouldn't the orignal tolerances be OK?

Thank you so much for the answers, if the caps fit, we can rebore and align the head and the caps, anyway we have to do some work on the camshaft too because its in very bad shape.
Back in the 80s those bikes used to be very popular, but no as popular as Hondas or Kawasakis, today only few survive in working condition, parts are hard to find and prices are very high too, so we repair absolutly EVERYTHING.
Thanks again and best regards.

I would pull the rockers and make sure the cams turn easily after torquing down the caps; they should work.

After

After

Okay, after you pull the rockers but before your torque the caps down yo check how the cams like the new caps. Then you can slowly tighten the cams. Until, the cam doesn't turn. If that happens, you can gently handfit the caps. A little marker and see where the cam rubs on the cap. Usually, it doesn't take much grinding to get where you need to be. Never torque the bolts down when the cam will not turn. Easy to strip the threads. After a while, the cam should turn when the caps are snugged. Then you are good to go.
Hope it helps.

One more time thanks to everybody for the help, we buy the cam caps and seems like with some work they will work perfectly.
The next step is find the pistones, the Wiseco kit will rise the compresion (10.25:1)wich its no so good because the cranckshaft have some loose (within the limits) and we are afraid this could be dangerous.
Bye!
