Retro fitting a choke

I sold the 29s that were on the Cooley . They had the cable choke arrangement so the choke cable of course would attatch..The 26s that the guy gave me with the bike have the choke lever on the left side. Can the 26s with the left side lever be converted to use the choke cable on the Cooley? Can i just get the cable harness and put it on the 26s?

Chuck, I don't know how much help this will be, but I'm trying to do exactly the same thing with my 450, although to a 'bar mounted choke lever from a later GSXR 600 left control.

This is the left control I bought off eBay, will take a couple of weeks to get here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0494460561&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I'll put some pic's here to try to show you what I mean.

Choke lever on the left directly on the carbs:

A close look shows if I remove the lever, I could pull straight up on the actuator with a throttle style cable (the actuator is straight above the mixture/air screw there):

And I should be able to stick with the same principal as the throttle cable bracket:

So, I need to make two things for this to work. I need a bracket attached to the left carb to hold the cable, and I need an adaptor of sorts that will attach to the choke actuator to allow the ball end of a throttle style cable to move it. I may or may not need to add a return spring to the actuator.

So far, all I've done is get some 3mm galvanised steel stock to measure and mark out the first attempt at a bracket:

It will mount at about a 45 degree angle toward the rear of the bike, and the dashed lines in the fork will bend up to prevent the cable working its way off the end, just like the OEM throttle cable bracket.

Be warned that this is totally in the concept stage at the moment and that I haven't even cut the adaptor out or received the left GSXR control yet, however I'm hoping that the same principal will apply to yours and it may just help you out a little.

Please also disregard the state of my carbs, they've been throroughly cleaned ready for my first start and are immaculate internally, but I haven't done anything cosmetically to them yet.

If i am remembering the 29s correctly the harness slipped right over the choke rail and theres a slot that the cable slips into..Thing is i dont know if this setup will work on the 26s i sent to Chef for rebuilding..If that type deal will work, i THINK that if I can find aVM 29 cable bracket and fit it onto the choke rail on the 26s..But i am not totally sure of my assessments here..

Chuck, I usually take the cable system off and put on the lever from the earlier 1000, I like it better than the cable. So if you find all the pieces, it's a bolt on. I may have what you need but it will take a while.

If that works it'll be a world easier than what I'm doing...

I should've let someone with the same carbs answer first

Bill Pmd me back and they do have the hand lever on them already..I am looking to keep every OEM feature on this bike historically correct and fundtioning.
