    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi,
I started up my bike today and let it tick over for a few minutes before taking it for a 20min spin out the road. Got my jacket, gloves and helmet on, sat on the bike and noticed my rev needle was dying a small bit. I gave it a bit more choke and put it down to the cold weather, but was a bit strange, as I thought it had warmed up enough....

Went for my spin and didnt really notice it untill I got home and as I pulled up on my drive my rev clock/needle got lower and lower and then just went to "0" and stayed there.

I put her into neutral and gave it a rev but nothing. Didnt the oul "turn it off and on again" trick, but no, my rev clock is dead.

Speedo is fine, and its ticking over great. Even adjusted the idle slightly but than didnt move it either.
Could it just be a simple cable replacement is required? Would that be a common thing to go?
Or is it something else??:confused:
 
It is very common. Check it this way: Unscrew it at the bottom of the tachometer and place the end where you can see the inner cable. Start the engine and see if it rotates.
If not, pull the other end and check the inner cable for breaks. While it is out, you can also put the end back in the tach and spin the inner cable by hand to see if the tach needle moves. I have put a variable speed drill on the inner cable before and tried it that way, but you have to be careful to not exceed the speed of the tach.

If you use a variable speed drill to test it, remember the cable spins counterclockwise (or reverse on a drill). Otherwise you will get no reading even if the tach is good.
 
Thanks, but i havnt had time to even look at this yet...I this doent work do I just get a new cable, or is something else causing it?:confused:
 
If the inner cable is broken, just replace the whole thing. The concensus on the forum is to use OEM replacement cables wherever possible.
 
Looked at this yesterday..Cable was broke at the engine side, about 30mm into cable.
Ordered a new one, so that should sort it. Thanks again!
