    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have one, it works. Gets things clean, sometimes it takes a while. It's the only one I've used, so don't know how it compares with a good one.

Watch out about the power rating. Most sell the inexpensive ones by combining the heating power and sonic power ratings as one wattage figure. Another words, the sonic power may be 60W and the heater may be 100W so they call it a 160W cleaning power unit.

Here is the exact same unit with the true power ratings:

As you can see it's the same exact model CD4820. This unit is branded with MANY differant company names, but this company breaks down the wattages by function.

Sonic Power:60W (70W for 220V units)
Heating Power: 100W

Not saying it wont work. Just saying be carefull of specifications. To low of sonic power and it may never acheive proper cavitation to do a good cleaning. You may hear the hissing sound but the cavitation bubble formation is what you need to clean with. Lower power units typically can't handle large masses (carb bodies). Also note that the units description says it good for eyeglasses and jewlery. These are low mass items.
 
I have one of these too and overall am pleased with it. Be patient and run it over and over with clean solution and it does a good job. Do use the heater though, hotter the better I've found.

We have a professional ultrasonic bath in the lab at work and the recommended chemicals to use in it, I used that a couple of times before buying my own. Results are not as good with this one, but you're paying a lot less too. The one we have in the lab costs around $1400 if I remember right but it isn't 14 times better.

I was just thinking about what you said here.Then I remembered your DIY is twice more than twice the volume (6 vs 2.5) and has 100 watts of power.Is that why you want to add more transducers?
 
Found these ones on CL in Vancouver, they look better quality and have 3 sizes I believe. Range in price from $279 $839 for the 30L unit

Yes. I was going to add additional pairs of transducers to the project just to see how much additional cleaning power I would get. The idea is to eventually come up with a very cost effect, large volume, sonic cleaner that works better then many of the "low cost" models that are out there. I'm working with a company in Beijing China that MFG and designs ultrasonic cleaner part and systems. They have a 600W board that would allow me to connect up to 12 50W transducers on a large volume tank. The idea is to be able to do a complete set of carbs at one time or even a head.

I'm finding that I have to wait for warmer weather though since turning the cleaner on in the house causes my cats to absolutly go bonkers.:eek::eek:

Sounds like I'd better not use mine in the house then.Kind of speaks for a heater doesn't it?

Heaters are nice but I start with fresh hot solution each time so no heater is needed. The cavitation effect heats the liquid as well.
 
Well I got it within a day of when it was shipped UPS.Seems like a nice enough unit.Yes there are probably better units out there but it will have to do.Wish I had some dirty carbs to try it out on:(

Well, you could always try silverware, chains, earrings and rings and so on. Your favourite knife, gun parts and lots of other stuff :)
 
I always use them for cleaning used brass shells for my ammo reloads. I was amazed how well they work. Even with just water and no solution! When i did carbs in one i used a reduced degreaser in it and it worked amazing
 
I just wish i had one i could sit in at the end of a work day lol
 
This is the one I bought. It works awesomely but you do have to disassemble the rack to put all 4 carbs in. I think it was about 400 bucks. Can't remember, had it a couple of years now but it has MORE than paid for itself. Ray.
