This one looks like the replacement for the one I have. This one is a little bigger in capacity but only a little. WELL worth the money to have one! You rebuild 3 or 4 sets of carbs & it will pay for itself. Once you have used one you will never go back to dipping carbs either! Ray.

Thanks Ray, its good to get feedback on what works from professionals. I would have gotten my money's worth this summer dealing with my Yamaha carbs. I am looking for something that takes a whole rack of carbs. You can disassemble the FZ1 rack into individual carbs but the experts say they are very difficult to get back together.

Using the chem dip / pokey wire cleaning method I would say I was only successful with one of the cleanings I did this summer.

I hate ethanol and politicians that promote it.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-2-5L-ULT...LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3f2c01dc30&_uhb=1 been looking at this a while.Since getting a Carbtune is being a PITA I'm thinking of getting this instead.Anybody got one?
I have one and am happy with it, the only thing I suggest is as soon as you get it take the plastic off and seal between the top where the plastic and tank are if not moisture gets inside and they are short lived . I found out the hard way. sealed the second one with rvt and have had it a couple years now still going good . You do have to get creative with hanging the parts so they are not touching the tank for best results.

Parts should not sit on the bottom of the tank, as it weakens the ultra sonic waves as I have been told. I have a couple different thing s I use to suspend the parts in the tank. I have noticed hanging the parts does seam to make it work alittle better One thing a did notice if you don't hang the parts you see very little noticeable motion in the fluid/ water/ cleaner what ever you using your cleaner, but if you hang your parts you can actually see the action. Also we are not using them on jewelry but have been told by a former member / jewelry maker that if parts touch each other they will vibrate against one another and make marks.

Mine came with this nice basket.Guess it was worth the few extra bucks I payed. The place I got it from sells plastic and stainless baskets.

yes mine came with that also. Try it by hanging the parts. I've had mine a couple years and tried alot of different things

Is that a plastic basket? Because I've been told plastic absorbs too many ultrasonic waves & only stainless should be used. Makes sense to me as all the better quality ones (not Chinese) come with a metal basket.

One of the respected Guru's on the FZ1 site that does a lot of customer carb and suspension work was saying he takes the internals (jets, needles, floats etc) out of the bodies and ultra-sonic cleans those components and then uses Yamaha Combustion Chamber cleaner and compressed air on the bodies after they have been stripped of external rubber and plastic hoses and pieces. It looked like from his photos that he uses the small HF unit.

Is there a reason why we wouldn't want to ultra-sonic clean the carb bodies and the internal passages? I wonder if its because he doesn't own a larger ultra sonic unit and that's whats driving his procedures.

Seems like the other stuff (needles, jets, floats) are all pretty easy to visually inspect and clean. Its the internal passages that I seem to have problems with.

Yes it is probably because the HF one is so small, I have done bodies in mine but it is small and unless you suspend the body, I don't think it works that well. If you suspend it the results are much better. I personally only do the small parts and the bodies go in the Berrymen's, I use both when I clean carbs. I have seen some large commercial units and they do a way better job. But you also have to take into consideration the one you get from HF is designed for jewelry, not so much heavy duty cleaning

Does yours make a high pitched sound when operating?

Does yours make a high pitched sound when operating?

I purchased this unit, it's all stainless and comes with a metal basket, it's just barely big enough to fit a disassembled CV carb in the basket.

I am thinking of swapping it for the 6L model.

My unit makes a very loud annoying noise when running, I don't remember the one we had in our old shop making any noise.

Anyone else have a noisy unit or are they normally silent or very quiet when running?

Thanks Nasty, I was a bit surprised that it made so much noise, and yes they do work really well.
I could see the crud coming out of the carb almost immediately and it had been cleaned in simple green and dipped in Berryman's 2-3 times at least.

I also did a seat lock that was so full of gunk the key would hardly go in, after 15 mins. in the tank it worked perfectly.

They are so useful, wish I had this when I started my rebuilds and I should have just bought the 30L and be done with it.

Cheers,

David

Mine is 15 liters & buzzes but not loud. I LOVE the thing!!! I will NEVER go back to dipping carbs & I had been dipping them for over 30 years. Ray.

My new 6L SS tank version will be here tuesday. The first set to get dunked will be from a Hunda. Don't hate me. LOL.

Re buzzing and cats.
Funny thing about mine is not loud at all and the cats don't even notice it that I've seen.
