  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

Okay. so ive got a iring diagram...... usually im pretty good at understanding these things. Not anymore i guess.

Im trying to rewire the bike for the bare basics. Starter relay, Starter button and switch, fuses, bla bla bla.

Im having a hell of a time tracing this to get it to work. Ive looked at a frw different diagrams, tried drawing up my own, tried looking at someone elses drawn up diagram. Im failing.It would probably help if i knew what the reason is for some of these things is and how they worked..

For example, looking at bikecliff's wiring diagram for the gs1100......ive got all the wires traced and identified out of the ignitor except two..... noth go to the signal generator..... what the hell is that?! what does it look like? is it needed for basic engine function?

Basicly what im trying to do is use the basic factory components and rewire the whold bike. I dont care about lights horns or anything else right noe. Ill figure that out later. But i wanna (need) to keep a few things. obviously.....

starter switch
generator
regulator/rectifier,
starter motor,
starter button,
the ignitor,
oil pressure switch and light,
battery (ha ha)
starter relay,
coils,
???? signal generator ????


another thing.... im looking at the diagram and i have a white/red wire coming from the regulator that looks to lead to the right handlebar switch but my diagram shows a loop without clearly depicting the switch and its workings itself. What is this one?!


God its been a long day, can you tell?

Is there anyone that can draw up a simple diagram for me that can incorperate all the things needed to make this bike run?! Just the basics. No lights or anything. just start, charge and run.


Im sure its asking alot but it would help a ton.

Okay....signal generator, got it, understand it. good to go on that now.

I have a Green/ White coming out of the generator. Is this the positive wire for everything?
 
if you follow that wire from the rectifier to the headlight switch you will see that it connects in the switch gear to another going back to the generator. Red/white going up green/white coming back, just splice the two together and your done. I'm drawing up a new diagram with the electronic ignition for you but I'm at work and people are buggin.
 
okay. thanks. Thats what my diagram was showing but it didnt make any since in my head. Why would they run a wire clear up there just to have it return to the rectifier. I thought my diagram was just missing something.

Ive got a stock diagram out here and im highlighting everything in red that i need right now and looks like i have everything tied in so far. Those last two wires were the only questionables.

Your diagram is what im going for on my bike but the only differance was the rectifier and regulator were a bit different. Now i think thats cleared up.

The other confusing part was on your diagram was points. Had no clue where i was going with that one. I had signal generator on mine and i never put two and two together. Dumbass :)

Now its all making since. I think ive been staring at the tiny lines on the diagrams too long!! :)

I started the night by pulling the wiring harness apart and trying to identify everything. I quickly found a few things i need more knowledge on so inside a came. And here i am.

Now that i can trace everything on paper and understand em all, ill make it done on the bike.

Thanks for your help briyen. i feel like im bothering you too much so i didnt wanna come ask you again as you've already gone out of your way to help.
 
Am also rewiring a gs...wondered if anyone had wiring diagrams that were in parts..
ie ignition circuit...lighting circuit etc..
would be easier to follow ;)

Probably wont help much but i used a balll point pen, the kind that leaves a fat ink line, and traced each section. eg. ignition in red, starting in green, lights in blue ect. Its helped so far. I know its tough to read the tine lines all night long :)

Another idea i as gonna do was take a file with the diagram (or your book) to kinkos or some copying place and have them print it out on enlarged paper. i ws gonna do this and stick it to the shop wall forthe duration of the wiring.

as soonas these tattoos are done I will finish up the diagram and post it. If there is time iwill break it down into sections for you guys.

More wee lines for you to stare at!!! The letters next to the lines are the color codes according to the manual. I.E. R=red B=black Y=yellow O=orange L=blue G=green W=white.......consalt your manual should be the same as mine, couldn't imagine Suzuki to change the wire color code.
Also the wires that threw you in the charge system, they went thru the head light switch in order to handle the extra load from high beam. As it was explained to me.
Since your choppin here's what I did for switches.

Head light switch is a parts store "on-off-on" and the button came from radio shack. They(r.s.) sell a bunch of cool stuff there. I picked up a few of their power connectors so if I need I can unplug components.
 
hey man, thanks alot again for your help!!!

Yeah im going with the idea of the plate with all the switches between the tank and seat. No switches on the bars for a cleaner look. Plus all the wiring will be in one spot rather then all over the bike.
 
Mine are under the seat. Just reach under my butt and there they are. Don't hesitate to hit me up if I can help I will do what I can. I owe this forum so much that it's the least I can do. I would be lost without you guys!

Since your choppin here's what I did for switches.
Close, but not quite. Earlier bikes had an actual on/off switch for the headlight. When the light was off, the alternator would put out WAY more power than was needed, so they ran one of the stator wires to another set of contacts on the headlight switch to reduce the output when the lights were off. Has nothing to do with high/low beam, it is entirely lights on/lights off.

Okay so if i were to wire the bike in such a way that as long as the ignition is on, the headlights are on as well, that should be okay right?!
 
Yes, no problem. One of the common mods when changing out an r/r is to eliminate that loop that goes up to the handlebar switch. To do that, just take all three stator wires and connect them directly to all three r/r inputs.

yeah like I said. Just was misinformed as to the true function of the loop.
