No problem,

No problem,

I just ordered the correct size bearings for each. I used VXB bearing supply, or one could use McMaster Carr. I believe they were 20x42x12,

I was thinking a little backwards going back to when I was trying to use a GSXR wheel with my stock forks. I couldn't find a bearing with the small GS axle size and the larger GSXR bearing OD?

I don't know what size your stock axle is, but when I wanted the 17" front wheel, 310mm rotors, and 4-pots I ended up using a GS500 front wheel. Same axle size, only needed some shims on either side to shore up, and you can get Bandit 400 front brake rotor (or another GS500 rotor if you don't mind the pattern being opposite) to bolt to the other side of the wheel.

I've become an unwilling expert in finding bearings, though...if you need an odd size, hit me up, I'll tell you where to find it.

It had a small diameter axle not sure what is was anymore. I took bearings out of both wheels to a few bearing shops back at the time I was trying it. None of them could help. I could have shimmed the smaller bearings into the GSXR wheel but there were going to be other problems so I went with a complete swap. That was way back in '93.

I forgot about this. OK I could go with this even keeping stock forks.

Wider wheels, radials, 4 pot calipers and 310mm rotors that is the way to go.

But what is the difference between a 2nd gen GSXR 17x3.5" 3 spoke front wheel and the GS500 wheel? What tire are you running on it?

I see stock it was TIRE, FRONT,110/70-17 54H
So we looking at a 17x2.75" wheel?

Looks like there are still some decent tire options in a radial.

The GS500 wheel is 17X3 and I always ran either a 110/70 or a 120/60...my preference being BT010R's. Lots of radial options, though.

The biggest benefit to the GS500 wheel, in my opinion, is that I literally asked for one and it was given to me. The bike has been made, predominantly unchanged, since 1989, so there's a lot of them laying around and a LOT of their owners are generous types.

I had the calipers left over from my TL1000S, the hangers were cut from scrap aluminum diamond plating, and the washers were leftovers from a thousand other projects. The only real investment was what it cost me to ship the wheel (the giver offered to even cover shipping, but I insisted) and the $25 for the Bandit 400 rotor.

To top all of that off...though it's not a huge improvement...to keep things nice and simple you can also get a GS500 rear wheel (which I also got from a generous owner) and it slips right into the rear. You need to source a steel 37 or 38 tooth sprocket (for my '81 750, anyway), and you can run a shimmed SV650 front sprocket (I can't remember what size I'm running...will check tomorrow) that just about anybody on SVRiders will give you.

All you got to do is pull the bearings out of the old GSXXX rear wheel and pop them into the GS500 rear wheel, as well as the spacer and a couple shims...I cut my spacer in half and glued shims in between the sections to get the clearance right. Stock caliper and hanger work, but are a little tall (watch pad wear), and you'll have to bend your brake brace.

You can run a 150 BT010R on the GS500 rear wheel without pinching...but no bigger.

I think my total amount spent to do 17" wheels was $84, which included buying a new steel sprocket for the back.

And, something to keep in mind, that if you build hangers to fit the Tokico 4-piston calipers...you can also fit the Tokico 6-piston calipers.

'89-'97 gsx600f (and 750) Katana uses that same 3x17 front wheel as the gs500.
