A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Spent $60 on a used head/top-end assembly from an E-bay bike.
This one only seems to have one broken bolt in it so it's already better than the poor thing came bolted to my engine.
I'm going to install proper studs on the intake and exhaust of this one (assuming its in better shape).
Thanks for all of the ongoing help and words of encouragement. :D

I finally got my gaskets and stuff. On the piston rings. Are the top ring and the one in the middle different in any way? On the Chevy engines I've rebuilt, there was a top side to each ring and the thickness and end gap where different.

On my 850 the chrome ring was the top ring ( also had a mark for top side up) the black ring was the second ring ( also marked for top side up.
they are different shapes if my memory is working the top ring is beveled and the second has a taper.
i am sure someone will concur Or not.

I got the new head and cams installed. I also found out that the valve cover for and 81 gs450 has somewhat different bolt holes from an 87. I ordered the wrong one. I'm going to get a roll of thin gasket paper from the parts store and try my hand at making my own.

Shes running. Carbs need sunk together and tuned, but I'll take this as a start.
Thanks again for all of the help so far.

Went for my fist test ride today. Got it fully warmed up and set the idel. Was on the way back home and it started to idel high. Pulled over to check it out and everything looked fine. I cleaned the carbs and double checked the seals and slide boots. Not sure what it could be. Im letting it cool off and then I'll start it and check for leaks with carb cleaner.

Wanted to redo the electronics tray so I could fit the aftermarket regulator that's somewhat oversized. I also went over all of the wires that had been messed with before and removed all of the chopped up or badly connected parts and solder/ heat shrunk everything.
I made sure to replace and add the extra grounds as advised in the "Noob" thread.
