    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Alas I have another problem which I will present to this fine forum.

I haven't been riding my bike for a couple days as I was away. It had rained heavily while I was gone and my poor gs650 was left to weather the storm. When I started it this morning It was only running on 3 cylinders. I took it for a quick spin down the road hoping that if I ignored the problem it would simply fix i self.. but when I stopped at my Grandmothers to make sure the wires going ot my plugs were all well connected (again) when I fired it back up it would hardly start and would only run on two cylinders(after a couple back fires). Then I whimpered back home to the gs resources forum to try and solve my problem. My plugs and wire are all good, and this isn't the first time its sen rain :).

I'm going to guess water has found away into my carbs or engine? I'm going to investigate to to check all my hoses to my carbs or tight.. but thats all i know

any help would be greatly useful :)

pull your plugs and wires out of the dead cylinders and check and see if you are getting spark. check the airbox for water. also look closely with a flashlight around your carb boots both in and out.
 
I pulled the plugs out and the two dead cylinders had what appeared to be oil :( on them. that's not exactly what I had hoped to find...

Not likely...my guess is electrical issues. Which two cylinders are not firing? Could be just a couple fouled plugs as a result of rain getting into a connection at the coil (s) plug leads ar elsewhere, leading to a misfire and then, plug issues.
 
pull the plug caps off of the cylinder giving you problems. I had a very similar problem and playing with the way the cap sat on the plug did the trick. my guess is moisture works itself under the cap because my problem also arose after leaving the bike parked in the rain (probably warranties new caps but hasn't given me problems since)

You say it has oil in the cylinders? Does it smoke a bit at start up? You might have bad valve stem oil seals and the non firing cylinders might be sucking oil through the valve stems. What cylinders aren't firing? It might be a be a bad coil or connection.

There was a post a couple months ago about riding in rain and quitting and the guy finally just replaced the plug caps with new ones and it solved his problem even riding in the rain.

See with oldtimer's disease you can remember everything except where you just left your bike keys?:oops:

At home, they are in the bike. 8-[
While riding, they are in the bike. \\:D/
While stopped and bike is not in reach, they should be in a pocket. :shock:
