    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK, Here we go...just finished putting a 77 750B back together. Was a barn find. Had everything off the bike except engine. All clean and pretty now. Took the carbs off, fully blew them out and replaced the parts that came in the K+L kit, all looked pretty clean. Bike started right up, but had no tank on, just filled the tube to fill the bowls. Also, no air box or air cleaner. It starts right up on choke and high idles, but when you give it gas, it dies out. All adjustable jets were set back at original settings, all slides work fine......any ideas?

Yes, Read the posted links above. But to answer your question, more than likely the problem is that you don't have the air box and filter in place. These bikes are very sensitive to air flow and any slight change, including just a little thing like bad o-rings on the carb boots, can change the way it runs. Without a filter and air box you've made a huge change and there's no way it's going to run right.

If you want to play with it for a bit try putting your hand over the carb air inlets and cover them 1/2 up. (or something else over them that will not get sucked into the engine.) my guess is that with the air restricted it will run without choke and will take throttle. This is a very rough test but it's fun to imagine as you do this that someday you'll have the thing running right when all the parts are properly installed.

Hi Mr. guscratter,

It's possible to double a shop rag and zip tie it to the carb intakes to temporarily get your bike running. But these bikes want an air intake system with no leaks. You'll find an air intake repair guide on my little website. It should give you an idea of what's necessary for the stock setup. Any modifications from stock intake or exhaust always require jetting changes in the carbs.
