A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

From putting 3 rounds of buckshot into my bike.
It runs a few days ago both pre fire and post fire.
- Carbs have been completely cleaned, new o rings etc etc dip yeah.
- New pilot air screws 3 turns out, even 2 turns nothing (havent had a chance to adjust them yet)
- Pods... still started fine before with them but I have new mains on the way and will raise the needles.
- Have spark and compression all 4 cyl/ plugs
- Fresh fuel being put in via gravity fed funnel off handle bars protected by an inline valve for my safety and no where near the battery (Never again!)
- Floats are stopping fuel flow when bowls are full.
- No loss of power to the coils
- No airleaks and vacuum port is capped.
- Choke works properly.
- Valves are all adjusted
What am I doing wrong/ missing.
Seriously I cant afford to take it to a shop and I'm running out of time and patience.

Wont fire. You can hear when I give it a little throttle it starts puffing like it wants to turn over but just wont.

You only need three things for an internal combustion engine to run:
1) a proper air/fuel mixture
2) sufficient compression
3) a properly-timed spark

Evidently you are missing one of them.

The trick is finding out which one. :-k

.

You indicate that you have spark and compression on all 4 cylinders... that leads me to believe it is either a fuel delivery issue or a fuel/air ratio issue. The forum member will hang me for suggesting this but... maybe try a touch of starting fluid... just to see if it will make it go for a second... that would confirm that the issue is with the fuel.

Well my last theory is maybe it is my ignition timing, which I do not know how to do. Everything else I can handle...

I know I don't have the ideal F/A Mixture yet because I cannot get it running yet.

Started for a second, then died and am in the same boat as before. Any ideas?

its possible hat you ingested some trash into the carbs at some point. pull the bowls and look at whats there. clean the pilot jets too.

if this is your 85 GS700, the timing is non adjustable.

You may have to elaborate for the lad Steve.

You only need three things for an internal combustion engine to run:
1) a proper air/fuel mixture You had a fire you must have gas. is it in the carbs ?
2) sufficient compression Pull the plugs and put your finger over the hole while cranking
3) a properly-timed spark Are the plug wires in the right spot ? If you have a spare plug you can check for spark by connecting the spare plug and shorting it against the engine.

Bowls are clean, gas is clean and plugs are clean.
I just started for a second while holding the starter then it continued to try and start.

Not to mention the carbs are completely clean and my tank has no debries in it whatsoever.

Plugs are like 3 weeks old...
And yes a bowl full of gas comes out of each one.

I just don't get why it ran a few days ago and now won't. It has to be the carbs right?

sense there is no air box...
take some carb cleaner and have some one spray it in the backs of the carbs while you try to start it.
if it fires off... then yes you have "fuel delivery" problem.

Even though I'm using a funnel with a new fuel line and inline fuel valve... what would be considered a fuel delivery problem in that case?

If the fuel is not channeling through the carbs . . .

You also have done a lot of starting and had a fire. Check the battery. You may not be getting enough spark
