A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here on the GS forums, lots of Info!! The bike i am working on is a 77 GS 400, i picked it up with the clutch and all the shifter linkage on that side removed. I tried to reassemble per Manual but it is pretty vague about the reassembly of the linkage to the shift gear.
When i manualy go through the gears(motor is out of bike) it appears the linkage that turns the little gear with the dowels does not engage it properly so the bike will not change gears. Can anyone provide a pic with the proper setup or some helpfull hints to get it working properly??

Thanks, Mark in Minnesota

Its working

Its working

got it working, shift shaft was shifted over to far, got it back in position and all is good.

not sure

not sure

I think the previous owner was going to split the cases, all the bolts were out but he never got around to splitting them. Got the motor in 3 boxes, just got the valves redone, boring out cylinders to accept some bigger slugs.

I second the "why was it apart to begin with"

What was the PO looking to fix the case?

No, he just wanted to split them and check everything out. bike was working fine, only 18 thousand miles on it.

That's a LOT of unneeded work....unless there was/is an internal problem.

It is just another example of the previous owner who had no idea what was going on.

I hope the bike runs well and shifts great for ya!!
