A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Side covers - beyond repair??

Alright, I'm looking to repair these side covers if at all possible. I just can't spend the $60-70 per side cover for the OEM ones (for the wrong color), and ebay is pretty dried up.

Below are the pics of the front and back of each. The rear plastic "hook" style tabs are broken on both, so I'd need to fabricate those somehow but the other fasteners are OK. Prior owner made an attempt to use a piece of metal wire as a hook - I'd be more interested in seeing if I could actually reconstruct them with plastic putty.

As you can see in the pic the left one is missing quite a chunk... is there some sort of plastic putty that I can use to fill the gap? Ideally something I could grab at autozone or advance auto parts to save on shipping time. I'd love to work on it this weekend.

thats pretty bad, but salvageable. post up in the classified wanted section. you may get lucky.

as for the repair, use what is known as plastic slurry. grab some acetone at your local hardware/homedepot/lowes..
grab some abs plastic also, mix, set, spread. condensed version

I've fixed broken tabs and cracks before, but I'd throw that one missing the huge chunks in the trash.

I think Cycle Recycle here in Indy has a couple of 650L side covers that color. If you want, I can check on how much Rob wants for them.

I agree with Nessism, the one with the big chunks missing is trash.

That would be cool. Let me know!

Awesome, just what I was looking for! Subscribed to that thread

Maybe you mentioned it in the thread... but how did you re-do the pin stripes? Also, since mine is blue do you have any suggestions for how to match paint color as closely as possible?
