A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I rode the bike today and got on it hard, I recently did a oil change, I used 10-40 syntec blend, it might have been slipping before, it's not a lot just at top end, any one have any ideas, bike has 18k miles it's a GS 1000E, or whats a good clutch for the power these bikes put out, EBC is the only thing I find on eBay? The previous owner must have been a rookie driving!

Stock clutch is fine for a stock bike. Measure the fiber plates to make sure they are not too worn (at that low mileage, they shouldn't be), then install six new STOCK springs and a gasket, you will be good to go.

If you do the job with the bike on the side stand, you won't even need to drain the oil. :D

.

so your saying i can keep the existing clutch plates as long as they measure good, and change the springs! that sounds awesome, goona look for the springs now

Hopefully you didn't use auto oil, as some times there are friction modifiers in auto oil that doesn't play nice with wet clutches. Diesel engine oil is the forum favorite.

I believe those auto oils in question have the energy conserving sticker on them.

I agree, Ed, but have you seen any of those "friction modified" oils that were 10w-40? (That is what he said he used in his original post.)

I know that the "modified" oils also tend to have the dreaded "Energy Conserving" stamp on the back of the bottle,
but I have not seen any of those markings on anything thicker than 10w-30.

Same thing happened on my 650, it's the Springs at fault.
Slippage at high RPM = Springs
Slippage at low RPM or soon after shifting = Clutch cable adjustment is too tight

I had the same issue on my 1100. Everything was flat and within spec but it would slip at high rpm's. After de-glazing the steels, still slipped - new stock springs and a more thorough de-glazing, better for a little while, but still slipped at wot - new fast by gast fibers and problem disappeared.
My fibers were still original stock, which I hear are better than most aftermarket fibers; but they just didn't want to grab anymore.
The FBG clutch feels very good, no grabbing at stoplights and neutral is easy to find.

Yes it was auto oil, so what oil is best, rotella ? Thanks guys for all the help, I appreciate it.

Get new stock springs too. The oil may contribute to the problem, but only in a marginal situation.
