    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Smaller "Polaris" R/R?

Working on this little 250. I think I just decided that it's now going to be "built" rather than just put back together. I love the sh775 system , and even put one in my BMW F650.
Pis it too big for a 250? I read that you need to select an R/R based on engine size and saw warnings about too small, but not for too big. Can I use an R/R designed for a 900cc machine on a 250??
or is there another option that I should look into?

The relation to engine size is that if your engine stays cool (smaller engines probably run cooler) then it can absorb the SHUNT R/R stator heat without allowing the statro to burn up. Electrically it doesn't matter what size the motor is.

If teh SH775 is too big, for such a small engine you might try the Honda R/R. They are SHUNT (6 wire) but tends to not burn stators and fits in the ORM locations.
 
Thanks- I just did a little more digging on Electrosport. They list the same unit for all GS bikes of the era. I'm thinking I'll just grab another Polaris unit. I can find a spot for it.
Which Honda unit were you thinking of? I have a couple of used ones on hand from 80's VF bikes.

Get the SH775 since it's one of the best R/R's going these days, but not for the reason of reducing engine temps, because it won't.
 
I think the 250 uses the same stator setup as the other GSes, right up to the 850, so there is no reason to look for a smaller R/R.

Not stirring anything. Providing facts. I did back to back testing and proved that the R/R type doesn't affect oil temp.
