    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I broke the + lead...what now?

Being the cheap (ahem, frugal) bugger that I am, does anybody have any DIY solutions for a broken battery "+" lead?

I broke the copper ring off the end, trying to bend it back in position. Soldering doesn't look like an option as the lead end makes a 90 degree bend at the wire end.

I know they are not expensive, but I JUST put in an order with Boulevard and it's already on the way.
 
Why not see what you can find at OReilly's/Autozone/whatever you have there?

At least I would think it's a good option to check them out.

Sure, you can just buy another ring terminal and solder it on after you get the old one off. What size is that wire? 8 gauge?

I'm not sure of the gauge as I didn't measure it, but it's heavy stuff, at least 10. I was trying to desolder it tonight with no luck. I couldn't get my portable soldering iron hot enough to melt out the original solder. A little torch could end up being be too much heat for the insulation.

As it turns out the entire "+" lead assembly is available for $9-$13. Not too much I guess, and way less hassle than tracking down a good ring terminal and making it up myself.

I have a VERY temporary wire/solder/tape solution, but I'm not so keen on the connection as I only had some 12 gauge wire on hand.
 
Go to a powersports store, one that sells atvs & garden equipment. A whole new cable was under $4.00

Id go this route, but if you can't solder it and the wire is long enough just cut the old one off and crimp a new one on.
