Peak times

I have always been real careful around twilight and early morning runs. One evening outside of Grand Junction (coming off of Grand mesa) had a deer go OVER me, actually kicked me in the helmet, just caught him out of the corner of my eye! The guy behind me was in shock! Wished he had a camera.. I have also ridden into herds of them over by Durango, just been darn lucky, was able to slowdown evade injury and damage.

Heal first, be thankful your still alive, then look over the bike a little closer..

ok small update. shoulder feels a good bit better. knee is still jacked. turns out none of those bikes have titles. aparently no one ever told these people that storing bikes in the basement of your garage when you live next to a creek isnt the smartest idea. needless to say they all have water damage. the 1150 isnt much more than a bent frame with a few worthless parts on it. the 1000 isnt a 1000. its a 750 that was suposedly bored and stroed to 1000. with open exhaust and pods. but was run on the stock 750 carbs with no rejetting. ouch. i wonder why it stopped running. lol. both gsxr's have been laid down. badly. and youll never guess what was in the oil of all these bikes. water :(. a lot of water. how does that even happen. the 750/1000 also had metal chunks and shavings. there was an older bsa there too but that ones not for sale. most of the parts were either kawi or honda parts. i wish i had taken pics for you guys. it was a sad sad sight. so im back to square one. nothing that was there was usable for me. no plastics. no stator covers. the 750s cover has cracks all over. so if anyone has any parts they wanna get rid of. mostly the stator cover. please let me know

piester, any '83-84 Kawasaki ZX750A parts?

Seat, and body plastic.

TIA,

Eric

No body plastics at all. Except broken ones. Badly broken. I don't know for sure about the seat. Next time I go there ill make a small inventory of what is usable.

Thanks!
I am just trying to get another old soldier back on the road for short trips. ;)

Eric :)

so my like lives. i plugged the hole in the stator cover to see if she would start. threw some oil in and it fired to life. has no gauges, no turn signals, 1 mirror, no exhaust, and has a lot of battle scars. but it runs, thats all that matters :).

PM me if you want the plastic, pay for the postage and they are yours. :)

mr. piester, i was wondering if you had stock exhaust or something a little louder on the bike? i'm very curious about if exhaust sound affects deer.

Might help keep them from attacking from the rear.

dude give a brother a break, i'm just trying to get some actual scientific type facts.

Actually

Actually

Actually exhaust notes don't do much to clear the road ahead. I have sat and watched deer grazing on the side of the road as loud machines approached. They usually just continue to feed until the machine gets closer, then start moving, usually across the road! Thay used to make a deer whistle that mounts on the bumpers of cars/trucks/motorcycles, they found they did little good. They best defense is a lot of light and extreme caution in known deer areas... Heck, if you can sneak through em without spooking them, you are better off..

Its a good bit louder than stock. Exhaust won't spook a deer because you can hear it comming. The only type of noise that will spook one is a sudden and rapid increase in db level. Such as a gun shot.

I wouldn't say a loud bike spooks them, maybe just makes them a little uneasy? They seem to start looking around, wandering and moving a little more when I'm on my loud bikes than they do when I'm on a stealth bike. Wandering and moving can change to bolting every which way in a heartbeat.

Also they seem to hear the change in engine noise when I see them and close the throttle more on the loud bikes. Maybe it's a bit like how you don't notice a steady noise until it suddenly stops?

Over all it seems safer to me as far as deer are concerned on a quiet bike.

I think the deer whistles worked, I was commuting over the Siskiyous at night several times a week a few years ago. Almost hit a deer once every week or so. Saw them near the road quite often. Put on a set of whistles and big bright lights, after that about the only ones I saw were walking slowly and calmly away from the road, most nights would not see any.
Hit a deer in my wife's car, the body shop people at several different shops asked why I didn't have whistles, said they get very few deer hits with whistles.

I think the deer whistles worked, ... the body shop people ... said they get very few deer hits with whistles.
I think the jury is still out on the matter of deer whistles.

However, I CAN verify the efficacy of elephant whistles, gorilla whistles, lion whistles and tiger whistles.
I have THEM on my bike and have not seen a single one in several years of riding. :-\\\

.

They work VERY well for me, also!

Agreed. Not so sure about deer whisltes. But my hump back whale whistle works like a charm.

Work...

Work...

We did a study of our seven work trucks which we used in high deer areas night and day. It seemed that the deer whistles did little to curb deer hits, the KC nightlighters mounted on headache racks did the most good. Cut deer hits by a hunk, from four a year to one, of course grill guards did the most to deter damage..
