don't know about other states, but here in CT, you don't need a title for bikes manufactured before 1981. Even if it's from out of state, you just need a bill of sale, and present the bike to an inspector for a VIN check. I recently bought and registered a 1974 Honda CB200 with no title, just a bill of sale. I was worried because I figured the inspector would do a computer record search, but all he did was take my temporary registration, match up the VIN on it with the VIN on the bike, wrote me up a little slip, and I was on my way inside for the permanent registration. Hell, I should start up a business registering bikes here in CT so they can then be transferred out of state

You must be the same guy that pulled me over in Oregon in the backroads and got an "ummm......" when asked "didn't you see me back there?"...come to think of it you must have been the same guy that pulled the group of us over at last years North West Rally and let us go. that does help but if you register more than like 5 bikes in a year, not sure the exact number, you will need to get a dealer license. That is also why many people that "flip" bikes will not register it and just have the seller sign the title with no buyer or date listed.

The manufacturer of the motorcycle does not have a manufacturer’s license in Connecticut. (You may check the manufacturer’s license status in an Excel Spreadsheet or in a PDF document); AND
The motorcycle was never previously registered in Connecticut. This is to insure that the motorcycle meets minimum equipment and safety standards in this state. The Wethersfield inspection lane will handle all inspections of this type. If your motorcycle passes the inspection, there is a $10.00 administrative fee in addition to the fee for registration. If you have questions you may call 860-263-5080. At this time the hours for the Wethersfield lanes are:

The list of manufacturers is pretty comprehensive, so most likely you won't need to have a motorcycle inspected. I'm still searching about the dealer requirement.

After being stopped twice in 2 years on my mc during ralleys and not receiving tickets, which would have been richly deserved, I am convinced that old machines was the reason why. They go just as fast as the new ones, but I think the officers are surprised that anyone would ride a 30 year old machine more than 5 miles from home, much less fast.
