    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So, I haven't started my GS in months, charge the battery, turn the inline fuel stop on, she cranks right up on choke for 2-3 secs then starts to chug then quits!!!!
Strange! never done that before, I crank her up again and she bogs down again and runs on 2, then 1 then quits!
I take off the right chrome air cover (81 GS1000G) and spray a little bit of choke cleaner in there....................
Fires straight up and runs, but then wont idle!
Crap! TAKE THE DAMN CARBS OFF!
I opened up the float bowls and found crappy sediment in all including the idle jets!
Cleaned out with cleaner and air line.
Carbs back on, fired straight up, woop woop woop!!!!!!!! lololol!

Here's the issue! from cold it refuses to start, the choke cable is attached and as I pull the cable I can see the choke rods moving outward.
So! what part of the carb system did I miss cleaning?
I just went out and cranked her, she splutters and bogs down with choke, (cold engine) so I push the choke off and she idles a little quirky until slightly warms up then perfect!
Whats the deal?
I mention just my luck in the post! because I have her on ebay right now, then hopefully if sold, I'm getting a 93 GS1100G, so i won't be leaving you guys on the site!!!!

There is probably sediment in the pick up for the choke circuit. Possibly in the upper diaphram chamber as well. Also, make absolutely sure those airbox boots are in place. I had been fighting with mine on my new to me 1000G myself..
 
My air box boots are new as well as the intakes, THANKFULLY! the air boxes on the G model come out real easy not like squeezing the carbs between the intakes and air box.

Thanks Cafekid, you nailed it in one! there was some slight sediment in the upper area, cleaned it all out, cranked straight up, then I let it cool off and tried again..............
100% perfect. Thank again.
See! I know quite a lot about the GS's but get stumped from time to time!
 
Its easy to do. Especially i find if youve been working on them for a while. You KNOW the necessary things, but sometimes you just look beyond them for a more difficult problem, instead of thinking thru the simple stuff because you assume that you already took care of it. I do it ALL the time. Hell, right now im confussled as to why i cant get my MityVac to draw brake fluid thru the master. I really dont want to pull that rear MC off and prime it by hand... its such a mess.
