A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

My GS450 was missing an exhaust bolt when I picked up. I have been working on getting the bike running and when I went to put in a replacement bolt it won't go it. I examined it a little further and there is an insert or something in the bolt hole. The insert does not have any threads so I don't really know why it is in there. The picture should give you a good idea what I am trying to explain.

I was thinking about tapping it, but maybe someone has an idea what that insert is for. Any help or info on what I need to do to get this exhaust bolted back up would be very much appreciated. Help me get this bike back on the road!:dancing:

Thanks,
Ryan

Maybe the PO put it in the hole with the intention of tapping it then forgot to do it. You could try to tap it or just put a helicoil or threadsert (preferred) in there.

Looks like someone drilled the screw but didn't finish the job.

The insert looks like it is smaller than the stock M8 size, more like an M6. I just sized up the tap to the new hole. I guess I will tap it to the M6 or the largest that will work.

I have never seen one of these before. Thanks everyone!

Yeah I agree....looks suspiciously like a drilled out bolt.
